Sort by Author doesn't then sort by title
Short story - Just added my audiobooks to my main library. (Much easier to know if I have just the ebook or both the ebook and the audiobook). But when I click on Author column, the items that have identical titles don't line up under each other.
For example, SM Stirling's Prince of Outcasts ebook and the audiobook are within the group of items written by him but neither is near each other. Ideally, they should be one after the other. Now they were not added at the same time and they have different tags, so all I really want is a sort by author and within author, sort by title. Nothing else. It can't be that hard, but I've yet to figure it out. Pointers to where this is explained or tweaked or advice greatly appreciated. |

You need to do the sorts in reverse order with the most significant one being the last. Sort by title first and then by Author will give you titles sorted within each author.

Thanks
I accidentally did what was recommended (been using calibre for years, never did that before) and that worked but the plug-in does it mindlessly which is a better fit for me most days ![]() As I get older, I'm finding that there are just times when I like keeping the read going even when I can't physically read, so knowing which ones I have in both formats makes setting up a rtoad trip much easier. Thanks John |

Thanks. The idea of having all the formats in one place would be lovely except that many of the audiobooks are composed of over 60 - 100 mp3 files. So I save them in a static audiobook only location and create a playlist m3u file for each audiobook. That I can use to add the audiobook to Calibre; it's a single file that Calibre retains a copy of but it points to the static location and the multiple files and keeps the messiness of the audiofile format out of my Calibre library. I can even start the audiobook if I click on it in Calibre (not that you'd want to, need more management options for that to work well).

So, why not put the playlist file into the same 'book' as the ebook, then you will have the playlist and the ebook file(s) in the same place. A calibre 'book' can have many 'format' files (EPUB, M3U, MOBI, MP4, etc), but only one of each type.
Simplest way to add a file to an existing book is to drag/drop it into the Book Detail panel. You could listen to a book either by using the View->View specific format and selecting the M3U file, or by giving the M3U/media player combo a keyboard short cut via calibre's built in Open With feature - I use Shift+L. BetterRed,
Now I'm not too proud to say wow, I learned something. This is perfect and wasn't hard to set up. Just created a new column called Audio to find them fast and now I have everything in the right place and done once. Thanks, again! |
