Now, I know that that is not my mentality; but the mentality, and others in this forum and me, probably don't represent the majority of the mentalities of other people in the developed world. After all, the people who read this forum are not just interested in ebooks, but ebooks that are "Deals, Freebies, and Resources."
A short term sale can bump a book to being an "Amazon Best Seller" and thus increase visibility. It may also be more likely to turn up in the "If you bought this you may like" lists.

Excellent points. I hadn't thought of those. I would think that Amazon would like to crack down on those, if it could.

Personally, I hate those "if you bought this you may like" lists. And, the email messages (although, granted, I do not get them very frequently from Amazon--there are more egregious perpetrators) from various companies, too.

The book's way above my head. But one thing that I am capable of grasping is that, at only 99 cents, it is 95% off of the digital list price!

For centuries, scientific thought was focused on bringing order to the natural world. But even as relativity and quantum mechanics undermined that rigid certainty in the first half of the twentieth century, the scientific community clung to the idea that any system, no matter how complex, could be reduced to a simple pattern. In the 1960s, a small group of radical thinkers began to take that notion apart, placing new importance on the tiny experimental irregularities that scientists had long learned to ignore. Miniscule differences in data, they said, would eventually produce massive ones—and complex systems like the weather, economics, and human behavior suddenly became clearer and more beautiful than they had ever been before.

4.3 stars (258), New York Times bestseller, etc., etc.

If you're like me, the more times that you read it or listen to something like that, the more you get out of it.

Self-development books abound. Few stand out.

Here's one which stands out. First of all, the ratings are very good to excellent (4.5 stars at Amazon; 4.03 (809) at GoodReads). And it's not a self-pub, or published by a fly-by-night operation of questionable quality--it is published by no less than the AMACOM (The first part stands for the prestigious American Management Association). http://www.amacombooks.org/ for the book publishing end of the AMA.

It is Focal Point: A Proven System to Simplify Your Life, Double Your Productivity, and Achieve All Your Goals. It sounds like it may be much like Stephen Covey's bestselling First Things First.

It's got 252 pages, so it's substantial.

The Kindle ebook price is only 99 cents right now!

Linky.

Back probably a couple of years ago, I let you guys know about some excellent free ebooks from The J. Paul Getty Museum.

One that I don't remember posting--I think that I would have remembered because it is so beautiful--is this book. It is Ancient Terracottas, from South Italy and Sicily in the J. Paul Getty Museum, by Maria Lucia Ferruzza.

Here's a blurb:
In the ancient world, terracotta sculpture was ubiquitous. Readily available and economical—unlike stone suitable for carving—clay allowed artisans to craft figures of remarkable variety and expressiveness. Terracottas from South Italy and Sicily attest to the prolific coroplastic workshops that supplied sacred and decorative images for sanctuaries, settlements, and cemeteries. Sixty terracottas are investigated here by noted scholar Maria Lucia Ferruzza, comprising a selection of significant types from the Getty’s larger collection—life-size sculptures, statuettes, heads and busts, altars, and decorative appliqués.

I'm not going to encourage you to buy it, however. Why? Because it is free, at least at the present time. It is featured on unglue.it, which only only posts free books.

Here's a couple of paths to the free book.
- The mobi--simply navigate to https://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Terra...dp/B01D3NVOIC/. You'll know what to do then.
- The PDF and/or ePub-the path is more convoluted. Follow these directions:
1. If you aren't at http://www.getty.edu/publications/terracottas/, already, go there.
2. Locate the menu in the upper righthand corner. Click on it.
3. Staying on the same webpage (or partial one), click on "Downloads."
4. The resulting webpage (or partial one) will give you the options of PDF, ePub, and mobi as ebooks. I think that you can probably choose all of them, if you wish.

If you'll excuse me, I've got some downloading to do . . . .

This must be Christmas, instead of Independence Day.

The reason is that I came across a new trove of free ebooks. All of them have something to do with Delaware (I assume). They come from the Delaware Public Archives' "Heritage Collection."

Instead of going through the entire 50 or so free books, and selecting some of what I consider to be those which stand out (a very time-consuming task), I'm just going to tell you where the books are, and let you let us know of some good ones that you find. Deal?

Not every ebook comes in every one of the common formats--mobi, ePub, and PDF. In fact, most don't come in all of the formats.

http://archives.delaware.gov/eBooks/index.shtml.

Seems like Delaware had something to do with the signing of the Constitution . . . so maybe this is a suitable day to post this after all!

X-link to the DRM-free thread for a new Humble Bundle:

Humble Book Bundle Stranger Creatures supporting The Jane Goodall Institute presented by Brick Tower Press contains a mix of speculative fiction titles about imaginary creatures, and non-fiction books about real wildlife. The sfnal stuff is at the lower levels, and the non-fiction at the higher tiers.

For $20, you also get 8 wildlife books about various animal species (apparently geared towards younger readers) presented by the Institute, as well as Jane Goodall's (Wikipedia) own classic memoir My Life With the Chimpanzees, in a newly revised edition. And for $25, you can sponsor a chimpanzee and get a plushie (shipping & handling not included), with all proceeds from the higher pledge level going straight to the charity.

I know that I'm prone to hyperbole (it comes from my marketing background, I think), but this looks like it might be a truly fantastic deal.

First, it's free.

Second, it's huge, at 720 pages.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any ratings for it. Could it be because it was published just a little over a month ago? Could be. However, it has already attained a #1 seller rating in 2 Kindle store categories.

The ebook is Founding Fathers – The Men Behind the Revolution: Complete Biographies, Articles, Historical & Political Documents: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander ... James Madison and George Washington. Authors: L. Carroll Judson; John (Lawyer) Jay; 2 more.

The link is here.

If you're "into" this kind of subject, get it now. There's no telling how much the book will be after this free promotion!

Maybe it's a compilation of public domain biographies plus the public domain appendix?
