For the dead Kobo Glo HD, go to the Kobo Developers Corner forum and have a look for the thread on requesting an image. Read the entire thread. If it doesn't say how to flash the image to an SD card, go look around to try to find the thread that says how to flash the image.

Then you might be able to get the Glo HD back to life. You do have to open the cover.

Unfortunately, I don't have the tools (nor the skills) to open the Glo HD. I'll see if I can find one though.

If so, delete the book file and also the folder of the same name from the "Documents" folder. See how the Kindle acts then.

For the book, use Calibre to rebuild the file. Just a conversion to AZW3 should do it.

Unfortunately, no. My Mac doesn't detect it. Haven't tried it with a Windows PC though. Decided to try the 24 hour charge first.

Don't hold out to much hope for Windows, it is much slower to detect USB changes than Mac/Linux.

So I just did the 40 secs reset. No change yet. Light still blinked at the 6 to 8 sec mark.

By the way, when I woke up to find it drained, there was a photo of a large battery with an exclamation mark on it.

That's the normal "empty battery" warning. I wonder if perhaps the battery has died?

I was able to still use it though for about an hour or more and finished a book and started a new one before it froze.

That is the wake up / go to sleep acknowledgment.
But no other change, not even the re-charge battery picture on the screen means it checks the battery level and halts due to the low battery.

Any amount of time on a wall charger that causes the battery to become warm to the touch indicates a dead battery.
The battery management in the device will refuse to try charging a battery that grows warm (it keeps track of the battery temperature).

With this type of battery, an increase in temperature indicates that it has taken on all of the charge it can hold.
So the internal management will stop trying to charge it to protect against a battery fire.

Amazon (USA) is having a trade-in special now in addition to the usual $20 bounty.
All that takes is money.

You can open it up (the PW3 opens fairly easily) and put in a new battery.
All that takes is a credit card (to pry up the case bezel).

If you had mentioned that the battery heats the case when you put it on a charger, we could have saved you 24 hours of watching it not charge.

Oh dear. Another unit down. I managed to get my Glo HD to work but it's still being plagued by the same issue I've had last year so I guess that's also a hardware problem.

I seem to have bad luck with ereaders.
