Member JSWolf should be the local expert on that problem.
And there is a Kobo forum here (where he hangs out more frequently than in this forum).

My, but I am being very P.C. today.

I get your paranoia.
A little less than a year. And Kobo refused to honour warranty because I got it off eBay. I had no choice because I can only buy off US stores since I live in Asia and the forwarder only accepts US-based purchases and that time, the Kobo store was apparently only delivering from Canada.

Already did a bit of troubleshooting with the Glo over at the other side of the forum (thanks to Davidfor, et. al, to no avail. Took a bit for me to fulfill all the 5 stages of grief over it but I've accepted it that it's now a paperweight. that's the reason I went over to this side and got a Kindle.

Yep: Used sometimes means no warranty. Even here in the US. Most electronics and small appliances are first buyer on the warranty.
Good luck with your kindle.

Good luck with your kindle.
But if you buy something off of the 'net, doesn't that guarantee its a fair and honest deal?

On a site that shall remain nameless here -
A Kindle Basic (KT3), White, Used, Special Offers, Blacklisted - $6 less than Amazon's current price.

I expect the shopper that gets that great deal will show up here for help within a few days of the purchase.

Good luck with your kindle.
I got it off eBay brand new and around 3 months after it was officially launched. I chose Kobo because they were officially sold here and I thought at least they'd had a service center where I can have it fixed if needed. I didn't get my unit locally because at that time, the distributor's latest model here was the Touch and coming from the Aura, it would be a downgrade at a more expensive price (around $200 if bought here).

Unfortunately, they didn't have a service center here. When it broke down, it was only 10 months after the official launch so all Glo HD units should technically still be under warranty. They didn't honor the warranty and what they offered was a discount if I get another unit IF I ship my Glo HD to Canada. It was impractical because having it shipped from here and getting a new one shipped back to me would set me back by $50, not to mention the price of a new unit even if they gave me a discount for it.

Ah well, lesson learned.

Goodness. I hope that doesn't get sold. Only $6 difference and blacklisted, who in their right mind would get that?

Little question: was the Ebay seller a licensed Kobo retailer?
If the answer to that question is no, then you bought a "used" device. It doesn't matter if it has never been out of the box, it is technically used because you were not first buyer.

I admit that it's not a licensed retailer. But what I thought about their warranty is that it would be like that of my experiences with Apple, that they'd honour it regardless of where you bought it as long as it's still under the 1 year warranty.

Oh well. I think we're getting sidetracked already. 10 hours to go before I can tinker with my Kindle. Crossing my fingers that it'll work.

Is sidetracked all bad? It is keeping you from watching your kindle.

I don't mind it but the mods might frown upon it. I don't know how strict it is here though. Some forums I go to are pretty strict when posts are going off-topic.

At the bottom of the index page you will find a list of three forum moderators.
Left to Right:
Gone - no more school, now holding down a job in the real world.
Gone - post grad studies, no hobby time available.
Dying or dead by now, most certainly not coming back here.

So if all we can do is discuss the mysteries of life while the Kindle charges ....

We are in Amazon Kindle not your sub-forum.
To the other poster, the mods are not real strict here.

For the dead Kobo Glo HD, go to the Kobo Developers Corner forum and have a look for the thread on requesting an image. Read the entire thread. If it doesn't say how to flash the image to an SD card, go look around to try to find the thread that says how to flash the image.

Then you might be able to get the Glo HD back to life. You do have to open the cover.
