The 12.9" iPad Pro + Apple Pencil? Significantly more expensive, of course!

Now, for synching, that is a mystery. What version of OS X are you running? I'm on Sierra 10.12.5.

When I set up the first time, it connected with no problems. I set up the Wifi option, and just tried it. So, if the device is in sleep mode, it cannot connect to it. Once I turned on the power button, it took ten seconds or so and the Digital Paper App connected to it.

My Digital Paper App is version 1.2.1.05010, I don't think there is a newer version.

Sorry I can't help more, it should just work. ;-)
I was on El Capitan at first, unable to connect, so I upgraded to Sierra, also failed.
I noticed when it tried to connect using USB it will create a network adapter named DPT-RP1 in Network Preferences. Looks like Sony changed the connection implementation from USB host to USB Ethernet, which I think will cause a lot of problem for many corporate users as our work laptops are usually firewalled or w/o permission to create new network adapter. Mine could not get an assigned IP from DHCP so it self assign to 169.x.x.x and thus failed to make connection to the Digital paper. What a shame

Apple makes great products and I've been tempted by the iPad Pro many times, but I just love the fact that the eInk display is so easy on my eyes. I already stare into two 27" monitors all day long, one of those being an iMac 5K, and the other being the LG 5K panel.

It's just a relief to not have one more screen shooting light into my eyes. The contrast is much improved on the RP1, it's a pleasure to look at my old handwritten notes.

That, plus battery life. I love the fact that the RP1 goes for weeks on a charge.

That's just garbage Sony marketing talk. That statement comes with a footnote on their website: 'Only if you use the device 60 minutes per day with WiFi and Bluetooth off, view 30 pages max, and use the stylus up to 1 minute per day'.

You can also market the iPad as having weeks of battery life with such footnotes.

I've been using the S1 for six months. The battery life on it is far better than on any tablet with a regular screen. Everybody knows that eInk displays don't need any current to hold their image, they're bistable, that's a huge advantage over LCD screens. This has nothing to do with Sony, it's an inherent capability of the screen technology.

Show me somebody who has gotten weeks of battery life out of their iPad by turning off the networking and leaving the screen on all day, every day. I tried to take notes on my Surface Pro 4 and the thing barely made it through a day. And, oh, I want to see what is on the screen, that's the whole point of having a device that functions like a notepad.

Sure but don't come up with Sony marketing rubbish 'weeks of battery life'. You won't get weeks with the DPT RP1 if you leave the screen on - the footnote on their website regarding the 'weeks of battery life' states that the device has to be in sleep mode after 1 hour of use every day (whilst using the stylus up to 1 minute) to reach 'weeks of battery life'.

If you use the DPT RP1 for hours onwards whilst scribbling notes on almost every page - as I do with most academic papers - you'll need to recharge it at the end of the day or the next day.

Again, just be honest about the device and don't copy the Sony marketing garbage talk here.

With the S1, I was charging it once a week, or once every week and a half. Ok, so I guess I'm not scribbling down as many notes as you are, fine. If you're writing that much then you have more reason than ever to turn off the network functionality to extend the battery life. At least Sony tells you what to do to make your life better and you just heap scorn on them.

I don't know how much battery life I'll get out of the RP1 but I know it will be better than the iPads and the Surface Pros, for reasons I stated.

Not heaping scorn, just allergic to garbage marketing statements by big companies - particularly when they are repeated by users on this forum that should know better - such as 'weeks of battery life' that come with totally unrealistic footnotes regarding usage (in this case: 1 hour max use of the device per day, 1 minute max use of the stylus per day (!), no wifi and bluetooth, sleep mode rest of the day).

If you use the iPad for 1 hour per day just to read a PDF file - with WiFi and Bluetooth off and up to 1 minute use of the Apple Pencil per day, you'll also get more than a week of battery life. Totally unrealistic in real life usage but good marketing talk.

Juegos, you seem to post a lot about other products. There are forums appropriate to those products. You don't have to be a debbie downer on every little detail. I don't post enough here to be upset if you report me, but I'm getting tired of your combative attitude. Let us enjoy the Sony product and discuss it with enthusiasm. If you want to share a review of the RP1 since you say you have one, by all means, but please stop with the negative wave's, man

Below pictures are from Japanese Sony website:
1: business man flying with low-cost airline
2: unemployed buddy sitting all day at the café
3: three social workers brainstorming what they could do for above buddy
4: cellist practicing for street busking
5: writer creating his sixth unpublished novel
6: county council surveyors
7: scientist trying to find cancer cure
8: optimist trying to figure out how to get out the jammed paper in his manual
9: YouTuber narrating voice over another monetised video
10: Sony representative asking customer's needs which he's going to abolish later on
11: DIYer brainstorming his next project over free books in the library
12: sexy secretary trying to make up pluses and minuses about her boyfriend
13: doodling interpreter
14: lawyer

Striking difference.

No way, this thread is much more informative when it has both praise and criticism of the device as well as comparisons to other devices.

Criticism is fair and expected. But using words like 'garbage' and 'rubbish' take it beyond criticism and implies a personal bias against Sony. We all know how marketing works and all companies do it. Post all the stats and comparisons you like, but keep it professional.

I really hope that Sony adds the content feature. One question. Is there the multi-page view like on the S1 where you can view 2 oder 4 or more pages side-by-side.

For $700 Sony should give Juegos the choice to connect the device to internet in 2017. Or to connect the keyboard because poor guy has a tremor and can't hold the stylus. Just basic rights for the gadget YOU own.

Keep bashing Juegos. People need to hear that. But there are good few honeymooners out there.

Basic rights??? Sony makes a product, you dont' have to buy it. Juegos has a choice, as do all of us to evaluate and purchase a product based on our needs.

All I'm saying is people are coming here to discuss a product that they are excited about. Let us discuss it and learn about it without the personal bias and unnecessary slander. And on that note...
