i'm sure that with time, sony will add cloud syncing via a firmware update. sounds like they may have just wanted to release the thing because so many people wanted them. and hopefully, for those of us who have the S1 and can't afford the upgrade, some of the improvements (software improvements) on the RP1 might also be included in a firmware update for the S1.

Unfortunately you have to pay for it:

I agree with you about the size - the reMarkable's 10.3 size might be too small for (some) pdfs, unless you smartly crop the margins. That's my main concern with the device. But it may outweigh the fact that the reMarkable has cloud integration and Sony's DPT RP1 doesn't.

The reMarkable's latest prototype handwriting latency is at 60-70ms now, as fast if not faster than the DPT-RP1 (and this has been confirmed by reviewers from the BBC, The Verge and so on):
At least one of the founders of reMarkable was involved in NoteSlate, an eInk device that started development five years ago and has yet to ship. I won't name names, but you should be able to figure it out. Maybe this time around, it will all work out for the best, who knows.

You can find a reference to NoteSlate in this discussion:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/com..._paper_tablet/

I'm happy with what the RP1. If cloud synching is such a big issue to you that you would accept a promised future product over a shipping product, that's your choice.

I highly doubt it since this was already a feature on the S1 but they removed it. Also, Sony stated that the device cannot connect to the internet at all - hence why they also removed the browser. So very unlikely that there'll actually be cloud integration in the future - just not possible on this device.

Who? You're just making this up without evidence at all.

If you read Harvard's study on the reMarkable you'll find out there's no link with NoteSlate whatsoever.

Google "Martin Hasek NoteSlate" and "Martin Hasek reMarkable". I'm not making anything up. Maybe the people at Harvard should learn how to use Google.

I just googled "Martin Hasek Remarkable" and there are 0 results. Martin Hasek is the founder of NoteSlate and not involved with the reMarkable at all - I repeat, 0 involvement.

Come on man, don't spread such rumors without any evidence.

reMarkable's founders team is as transparent as it can be - just read Harvard's study on them or go to their website.

Just give them some respect, they're like Sony one of the very few companies trying to improve our e-reading experience. Without them Sony would basically have 0 competition in the eInk-tablet market, which is a terrible thought.

Mr Hasek is certainly the founder of Noteslate, but a Google search doesn't suggest any connection to Remarkable. Do you have any more details?

Ok, so perhaps I mistook a tight little circle of references on AngelList as suggesting that this guy was involved in both projects, and I guess he's not, I don't know. So, I apologize if I was wrong.

I wish them all the best and I hope they ship a product. I'm sure that people will complain about their product once it ships. ;-)

Here is a French article that mentions that reMarkable's pitch is the same as NoteSlate's: ("c’est exactement le Pitch de la Noteslate")

I don't see a full user manual onboard. I see a three page connectivity guide on the device and the unit came with a big foldout sheet of paper. They seem to refer you to this site:

i'm now strongly suspecting that sony rushed out the device.
it makes no sense for a device created to handle pdf files NOT to have a full user manual in pdf format onboard unless features have not been finalized. if this is true, you can look forward to a firmware upgrade sooner rather than later.

Sorry, there is also a three page Basic Operation Guide on the device.

Who reads user manuals cover to cover? I think they just decided to switch to a website because it is easier to update.

It's a pretty easy device to use.

I just noticed a Control Server Settings section under Settings. A control server has to have an address, port, and registration code. What is this? Is it WebDAV again? There is no registration code looking back at my S1 Settings for WebDAV.

Is this described on the website? LOL.

Curious about the writing experience. Once you've produced some pages would you mind posting some screen shots?

Mine finally shipped. Can you describe how the two different nibs feel?

WOW! Thanks for sharing!! I pre-ordered and it has not shipped yet. Still waiting. Looking your sharing and comments makes me feel like 'YAYYY I got it" and makes the waiting not that painful.

I look forward to hearing more from you guys who got it!
Have fun with your new fantastic digital paper!!
