6 weeks with the 700

I got this devise at the beginning of the school quarter as a way of getting more reading in. I researched all the other ebook readers out in the wild. I liked Sony's more open attitude to the ebook market compared to the Kindle.

I bought at Boarders Books here in Seattle. No troubles. The reader worked out of the box. Loaded books on with no issues. I love the thinest of the reader. Lot of the time I read with its cover off.

One neat thing is having this gizmo with me gets all sorts of intresting ralk going. One of my teachers thought it was neat and he wants one at some point in the future.

The batteries work well. I end up recharging once a week. I don't mind the screen. I like the touch features of the reader. I like the os lay out too.

Over all I think it has served my hobbits and uses well.

I'm delighted you're so happy with your 700 -- I've had mine a bit longer, since early November and I'm still delighted with it.

I was curious about how the memory stick would affect the power consumption, so I have had it out for the past week, and am pleased to note that it doesn't seem to have any significant impact on the power consumption, so I'm going to put it back in and have a more complete library with me at all times.

Are you using the 700 for reading your textbooks, or just for pleasure? I suppose if you're reading novels, plays and poetry as part of your English courses, it would be hard to draw the line between reading "text books" and reading for pleasure. But for courses other than literature courses, are you reading ebook versions of your textbooks?

My girlfriend is using an ebook reader (a palm pda) to read all her course Material for 2 english classes, since 95% of what they read in those classes are out of copyright (I think they do that so they can make their own copies of the book and sell them for an arm and a leg)

No, none of my books come on the formats that I can use. I do have an ebook for one of my art history book, but I have to be logged into an app on my computer to read it. So at this point it is just pleasure.

Which one Reader 505 or 700?

I ordered a 505 via mail 4 weeks ago and still haven't received it, I think that it was lost or stolen in transit and now I'm waiting for my money back from VISA.

I ordered the 505 as people said that the screen was clearer than the 700 and since I've had no experience with ebooks in the past I was wondering if maybe that would be a better option with touch screen, light, etc.

What do you think?

Thanks

Hi nate.
I have just got my 700 2 weeks ago, and imo the glare is there and you will notice it but its absolutely does not make the reader unusable! if you are particular about glare and such; yes you will find it annoying and be unhappy. But I have read in pure daylight, under fluorescent bulbs and in dim lighting. works well all you have to do is slightly tilt it until the glare is off the reader. The big bonus to the 700; and the reason I purchased it is its SD card capability and its flexibility for a multitude of documents.

I recommend going to a Sony style store or a borders and checking it out in person b4 you invest. I did that and saw the glare thing is not as serious as it sounds on some threads.

hope this helped
