It feels cold here because of the wind, but it is supposed to be around 40. I don't believe it.

Cold. It's always cold. Even in the summer, when the temps are in the 90's we remember the cold and say, "It's hot now, but soon it will be cold."

slightly less cold this morning, sun is shining and there is a hint that some of the snow is begining to thaw - but it's still deep in places.... it's years since we've had anywhere like these conditions, obviously a symptom of Global Warming (whatever that is

)

Why is it that the entire country, at some point this past fortnight, has had loads of snow except where I live?! Just one good snow, that's all I ask for! And of course when we do get snow it will be in April when I am ready for Spring.

Central Belt, Stirling to be exact! I think we are protected by the Ochils from the east coast weather.

Nah, it was a good guess, the west coast hasn't had much snow either!

My nine year old has never been sledging and has only built a snowman once in his life. It just seems he is missing out on important childhood experiences. Okay, I know many children grow up in places that never get snow, but it is at least possible here. Ah well...clearly we need to plan a trip to the north of Scotland!

that's very poetic, pshrynkie. it makes me think of Nijinski's Sacre du Printemps.

oh, and here it appears to be sunny, and i imagine it's cold, but i can't say for sure since i haven't been outside in a week. i'll let you know after i do my shopping.

That's the Bureau of Meterology telling us that the city is covered by light grey cloud-looking smoky haze which is going to hang round for a while. Fortunately it's also helping cool the place down a bit which is nice.

The bushfires currently dominate the media here with the start of a serious shitfight between those who want to continue (re)building easy-burn houses in bushfire areas and those who don't support the former people's right to kill themselves in the manner of their choosing. Oh, and the "this is nothing to do with AGW" and "clearfell everything to stop bushfires" crowds are also active. It's all a bit looney if you ask me.

I've been largely unaffected by the fires, have one friend who was concerned about his place burning but has a shelter (with scuba gear) and a decent fire plan. So no real risk there.

I HATE tornado weather, especially when it's too dark outside to see the clouds. The tornado warning sirens sounded about an hour ago. <shivers> That sound is very effective. It creeps me out. Luckily there was no wind, very little rain, and the storm moved very quickly out of the area. The weather is very unsettled in northern Alabama and Georgia tonight.
