Our car was damaged in a hail storm last night. We will know where to take it by Monday evening.

We also lost our bedroom window. (No coverage there.)
There were over 100 hailstones on our bed ranging from marble to baseball size.
The siding is also damaged on the house.
This is one of the reasons I like living in the pacific northwest. It rains all the time but it's very rarely "you're going to die if you go out in this" type rain. Normally it's just a light mist. Not baseball sized hail. Yikes.

We also don't have to worry about hurricanes or tornadoes. And our thunderstorms generally have 10-12 booms without any visible lightning and then move on. The worst we have is the occasional earthquake, but it sounds like fracking has brought that particular joy to Texas and Oklahoma anyway, and volcano which generally give you some warning.

I would think your house insurance would cover the window.

Does your car insurance company require you to take the car to their own recommended repair shop for repairs? In California we can take our our to any shop we want for repairs.

We had the occasional earthquake before fracking.
I don't have to worry about hurricanes per se being 500 miles from the coast, although several years ago, the storm associated with a hurricane did hit us. We thought it was just a storm until a friend called to make sure we were ok because they had seen it on the weather channel.

Dtto: We've had an earthquake here, in the New River Mountains, in AZ, fairly recently, which is unheard of, and it's certainly not due to fracking. ;-)

(n.b.: it's bizarre to me that the Executrix hasn't "revealed" the terms of the Will. Weren't copies given to the devisees?)
Catching up on this:

As it turns out, the house was left to older sister in the will. Mom and dad apparently decided my friend, who had moved out of the house and was pursuing a professional career, was never coming back, so older sis should get the house. (They never bothered to discuss this with my friend the younger sister when they made the decision.)

My friend's issue was what older sister planned to do with the house. Since my friend was living there, this was a pressing concern.

She's now staying with a brother (who appears to be spending most time with his girlfriend, leaving his place empty), because she got email from older sis saying "I'm selling the house. You have a month to vacate!" My friend knew that might happen, and had her stuff pretty well packed for moving when the time came.

She had previously been debating trying to make a deal with older sis for longer term tenancy, but sister's actions caused her to sit down and actually read the 70+ page appraiser's report she had prepared to properly value the property, and said "No, there is enough work required on the house I don't want to commit to. I'll pass on trying to stay, and let it be my sister's problem." I could well imagine a host of needed repairs, since she had previously mentioned filling a dumpster with stuff to be tossed out after mom's death, and looking at possibly needing another. (When a family lives in a house for half a century or more, stuff accumulates...)

My SO and I had dinner with her the other day when she came into NYC for an intro session on a ten week immersive course in User Experience design she was interested in, as a precursor to putting herself back on the job market. I hope it works out - she took several years out of her life to be Elder Care for mom, and getting back into the market will be a challenge. She was previously an XML specialist, but suspects the need for folks working with markup languages has waned a bit, and getting UX skills will be complimentary to her other skills

I'm so mad I could spit! Several days ago my sister was feeling bad. I told her to go the hospital. She didn't do it. Three days ago she got worse and still didn't do it. Tonight she collapsed and is being rushed to the ER. They are saying stroke.

Why am I mad? She is mom's caretaker. Mom is home alone right now scared. I have been telling her since her last hospital stay she needs a backup plan in place. She has constantly ignored me. Mom hasn't had a meal other than meals on wheels for three days. The place is a mess and now I know state is going have to be called if they admit my sister. Mom is going to hate me.

I got my nephew to take her some fast food and put her toilet by her but if she falls there is no one there. I told her not to lock the door but she did which means if she hurts herself no one can get to her without busting the door.

She can barely walk with a walker and she's so shakey when she does.

This so totally sucks! My sister is paid by the state to care for mom so she refuses to call disability resources for extra help because she won't get paid. It so stupid I can't wrap my head around it.

On top of that it's the weekend meaning everything is closed till Monday.

Ok wanting to add to my vent.
Yesterday the window we need was $75 at Home Depot. Today it is $130. Needless to say we did not buy said window. They did have plenty in stock and did try to tell us we needed that window today because they were going to be out by tonight.

*We refuse to give in to that crap. The window will be replaced in September or October. Also too effing hot to replace the window unless we want to do that at 5 in the morning.
It reached 105 at least here today. For those that use Celsius, that is 40C.

Oh holey f***, that totally sucks. Does the hospital know your sister is a caregiver?
I am guessing that you can't go stay with her for various reasons.

My nephew's mother called she is making a hot line call. She has mom so upset telling her she is going to jail. I calmed mom down. Telling her that wouldn't happen. She would be placed in a nursing home and charges against my sister not the other way around.

I don't drive. I'm also allergic to dogs and she has two Maltese that have hair and you know what seeing your own parents have cats. It's a nasty place even when clean. I can't be in it more than a few minutes without hives and other symptoms. Hubby isn't able to do anything he's recovering from another attack. He can walk again but not at full strength yet. I don't want him driving long distances yet.

I remembered you didn't drive. Oh yes on the house, it may look spotless but the smell and don't dare wear black because in 5 minutes it will look like you are wearing a fur coat.
I have to ask would mom be better off in a nursing home?

Yes probably but she would be very unhappy. She's was in three different ones during recovery times. The last one she liked but my sister stayed with her.

The neighbors are new saw all the emergency vehicles came and checked on her. Saw she needed a hug and brought her some soup and a box of meal bars. She said she will check on her tomorrow morning. It makes me feel a little better. However she is going out of town tomorrow night and won't be back till Monday.

No word on my sister. It's like the hospital is closed or severely understaff which is usual for this place.

Thanks. Still no word on my sister. The hospital is about five miles from me so I might have to go down there. Mom however is an hour about five towns over.
