(No offence intended, but a lot of mobis you can find around the net are pretty crap and produced quick nasty with zero checking.)

Anyway, Calibre will show you the metadata, and I think allow you to change it.

Holding down the power button for about 10 seconds till the "POWER" menu appeared and choosing "RESTART".

It's just another Kindle file format. Mobi files often include an AZW inside them.

There is loads of info here about it if you want to get into coding them.

That might be a true statement. I tried messing with the metadata as well as downloading the metadata from calibre. Even downloading the metadata and doing a kindle restart didn't get me the book.

The device on calibre says that there are 134 files and I can scroll down and see (count) all 134. The first column has their numbers.

On my kindle I have 30 pages on the homescreen, each with 8 books, except for the last which has 1 (not including the dictionary). This tells me definitively that it's not on the homescreen. It's floating in the ether but it can be found through a search. WEIRD!

I am in no way, shape or form a coder. This is the limit of my technological prowess.

I give up! I'm just going to settle with saying something is wonky with the Mobi file. If anyone has any other suggestions I'll check back periodically.

Thanks AlanHK KNC1 and everyone else for your suggestions.

Have you tried removing the book from the device using Calibre, restarting the device, then doing a mobi to mobi conversion in Calibre and loading the book back on to the device?

Put your books into "Collections" -- basically folders.
If a book is in a collection it isn't listed individually.
Pretty necessary once you get more then a couple of dozen books.
Books can be in multiple collections -- I have one for the ones I'm currently reading, one for ones I made for publishing, and the rest are genres/subjects.

You should only have to remove the book's sidecar directory (visible over USB cable) after you remove the book.
The on-screen "Delete" or "Remove" action only effects the book, not the metadata directory and its contents.
That is intentionally left behind on the Kindle.

Then reload the book, and pause a bit while the Kindle re-creates the appropriate sidecar entries.

Yay. As they say, last time is the charm, thanks to shalym.

Now you got your book and also the nice current software on your new paperwhite. Now go read.

This is great advice! I didn't even know this was possible. Thanks for the help!
