Yeah. As a student I would wish to see lot more features than just a simple PDF support for such a high priced equipment.

Such as: Web browser, integrated cloud backup, support for other formats, etc. $699.00 is a lot for this !

This endless discussions about the sense of this device. And if you didn't get it.... the concept isn't a stupid E-Reader. It's main purpose is to work as an real e-paper. Reading is part of that.
I already pre-ordered one. I love my DPT-S1. A perfect device. The RP1 looks very good. For me there is no issue regarding the SD size. It would had been cool to keep the SD-slot, but the new sync-capabilities are awesome.

And egoodreader.com already mentioned that the RP1 can sync with different cloud services.

I just looked at that article you mentioned. It isn't clear to me whether you can sync directly to something like Dropbox or if you have to do it via your computer.

You are right. After reading it again there is only the folder sync mentioned.
I asked regarding to the online sync via box.com or dropbox... let's see what's the response.

Any reviews on this thing already? Some English persons must have gotten their hands on it? It baffles me that Sony doesn't market this device at al.

Wow thanks! That's at least 1 review in English by someone in the target audience. Got any more?

Does the latest version retain the screen sharing capability? Admittedly, I have not used this feature much but I see it as an important feature.

I think the writing capabilities of these devices gets glossed over by people who are always looking to consume content. Reading is important but the ability to write on PDFs, and create documents from scratch, those are the things that make this a groundbreaking device.

I've tried all sorts of devices over the years (remember the CrossPad?) but the Sony is the first device where everything clicked for me, weight, battery life, screen size, note taking abilities, etc.

I think the device is a no-brainer for people involved in all kinds of technical fields, such as medicine, information technology, architecture, product design, to name just a few.

I'm looking forward to seeing what features they've included in the new Digital Paper program. I tried to find a place where I could download it but I don't think it is available yet, is it?

I just want to point out that the device costs $699.99, not $800.00. I know it is still expensive either way but it kind of bothers me to see the price incorrectly listed in this thread.

I agree, with all of the complaining people do about price, it should at least be stated accurately. A $100 difference is substantial in the world of tech gadgets. Kudos to Sony for getting the price down. The people who bought the first generation helped pay for the development of the second generation.

I think the RP1 does not come with a charger. I believe it is the same specs, 5 volt 1 amp, as the iPhone chargers, isn't it?

The 699 price is excluding the cover of $60, which is basically a necessity to protect the device and screen and to clip the pen (the magnetic trips on the sides of the screen are too loose). 10 replacement tips for the pen add another $20, which are also basically a necessity if you use the device on a regular basis. So that adds up to almost $800.

You don't have to buy the $60 cover, you can spend $15 for this case:

which fits it perfectly.

It looks like there are new ballpoint tips for the stylus, I wonder what they're like. I assume all of the old tips fit the new stylus, is that right?

Sony has begun populating the links to various user guides for the DPT-RP1 on the support site.

Here is the online user's guide for the device, which has helped to answer some questions for me about the firmware operation on the US device.

I wouldn't assume that. It's an all new stylus which uses a different technology than the previous one.

Hmmm. No info on how to connect to a cloud service directly. I am getting worried about that.
