I got the $3 off any book over $5.01 offer today. Said it was for specific users only.

Interesting. I have never seen that. I saw the 75% off any book offer on Google Play's book web page (which was immediately rejected as expired), and I have seen the $5 off any book over $5 that appeared to be site-wide for everyone.

After I logged into Google Play and then went to Books, there was a big banner to click on. I don't recall if it was underneath the first row of books across the screen or not but it was big and hard to miss.

You have to add it to your account before the end of June and use the offer by middle of July. I already found out it won't work on pre-orders but the book I want comes out in a couple of weeks so it'll be in plenty of time to use the $3 off.

I had that banner last week, and took screenshots of both it and the popup saying it had expired. I contacted Google Play customer service via chat, explained everything, and was on the chat waiting for over 30 minutes while the CS rep relayed the info between me and her "specialists". It's bad enough that I had to wait for 30 minutes, but the rep took the term "chat" literally, and kept asking annoying questions that had nothing to do with the matter at hand (what kind of books do I like to read, what food do I like, do I like Indian food, etc.)

The ultimate verdict was "Tough Luck, Sucker!". The "specialists" said the offer had expired, and I should try to redeem them more promptly in the future!

I told the rep they shouldn't be advertising expired offers, and she said she would pass on my concerns to her "specialists".

Thanks now to pick out a back-list book to buy and I still have not use my $.99 movie rental from last month yet.

My one account I bought a book from last week didn't have it but the other one I haven't bought a book in months did. Hubby's did too. Now to convince him to let me use it.

This is back again for Black Friday! On website or email only I noticed. All my accounts but one had it and that one is not connected to any mobile device so I think that may be the requirement to get the offer or maybe it's for those who have purchased books before.

For anyone looking for a good use for their $5, here's a suggestion. All of the Very Short Introduction To series from Oxford U. Press are $6.15. Covers a very wide range of subjects. Here's the link, though I don't think it captures quite everything. I found something through looking through the available titles listed at the front of one of the sample pages Amazon shows; it was available on Google when I looked it up, but I don't believe it showed on this list.

One of my accounts got it, the other did not. I've purchased books on both and the account that did not get it is the account I use on my phone.

Of course, the book I want is not there now. I saw it last week on Google Play because I was checking prices but it's not there today.
