My wife says she is going to put my ereader and my DTBs in my casket for me.
I think she just wants to clear up the space taken by my books.

Just tell her to have some mercy on the poor fellows who will have to carry the casket. That's why you need to replace all your paper books with ebooks!

This is true! As a kid, I'd go to the library with my grandmother. I would check out the limit for my card, then she'd let me check out the limit for her card. I'd go home with an armload of books. Usually would have read through 3 by suppertime, LOL! Of course kids books are usually shorter...

I *mowed* through books in high school! Paperbacks inside of textbooks. Sat at the front in class, teachers rarely suspected me of malfeasance. You get away with a lot if otherwise a good student, LOL!

I had a friend on Facebook last year ask me what I did with all the books I used to carry home on the bus. He laughed when I said I kept them in my lap or between us to keep the guys hands off me. Or on occasion whacked hands with the books.
And I read them.
Then it clicked that he was the only guy I let sit close.

I read almost exclusively ebooks now, but I find myself still keeping my DTBs. I think I keep them around because they provided me with so many hours of enjoyment. 90% of my life has been spent with DTBs. Besides if something apocalyptic happens (Zombie Outbreak or The Electric Grid Goes Down) I will still be able to read. I also might want to think about hoarding reading glasses. (Google Twilight Zone Time Enough at Last).

I still have most of my DTB's as well, I just don't buy very many new ones. I did donate a bunch of hardbacks to my local library, but I still have all my paperbacks and a lot of hardbacks. At least the hardbacks are useful as projectiles to be thrown at the zombies as they close in.

Apache, I understand your wife. My sister passed away last month and we have unearthed many boxes of paperbacks. Don't have them all either. Some in the attic, some in the basement area that I can't reach yet. Even after selecting books that my other sis and Mom wanted, there are still 22 boxes of books to sell/give away.

But, in reference to the original question, I know my sis read all the books except for the 2 boxes that were marked "unread scifi" and "unread fantasy" and those are probably about 70-80 books.

I have to live about 7 years I think to read/listen to all my purchased audiobook and ebook purchases. If I wasn't a caregiver, I could cut that down to about 4 years.

I can say that every DTB I have I have read. Many of them multiple times. Mine are all on shelves in the house so they are not subjected to excess heat and humidity. One large walk-in closet is actually a library.
