I looked at the Paperwhite user guide, which simply states:

"Clean the screen with a soft cloth; be careful not to wipe it with anything abrasive." The user guide also cautions people not to dry a wet Paperwhite by placing it in a microwave oven. I got a bit of a chuckle from this, although I suspect someone at some point has probably tried this. Anyways, I use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with tap water, and this has worked fine with three Kindles. The water where I live is very alkaline, so I may start using distilled water instead. |

And now that I have an H2O, I can do the same thing, if I need to, with my reader [nb do not try this with a Paperwhite]

Something that I forgot to mention is that when reading I make sure my hands are clean. This reduces how often I have to clean my ereader and, in fact, I don't do it very often. I suspect that's a good thing in terms of screen longevity.

Just an addendum for foreigners: I've been often in the States, and I know how really supersoft most kinds of toilet paper there. But here in good old Europe, the vast majority of (cheap, supermarket brand) TP is made from recycling paper. Don't use this for cleaning the screen of an ereader! But of course the idea with pumice-free "supersoft paper" is perfect - but as mentioned above, one should use so called "cosmetic tissue paper" instead. These have the very same quality like the better American TPs and are therefore perfectly suited for that purpose... ![]() And of course there are predamped "lens cleaning/eyeglasses" papers in wet boxes. They're also fine (but much more expensive than cosmetic tissue paper). Last edited by Antinoos; 06-08-2017 at 03:13 AM. |

But talc (magnesium silicate) is certainly added. Did you mean talc? |

Virtually all the lens wipes that come in sealed packets use isopropyl alcohol. They should not be used on screens.

i clean all screens, large and small with apple's iKlear. whatever is in it is a closely guarded secret, that not even google could crack for me, but it does a far better smear-free job that any other cleaner or sachet I have tried.

the bottle itself only confirms what is NOT in it - no alcohol, no ammonia, no sodium laurel sulphate.. as per the instructions i spray a little onto a microfiber cloth, NOT onto the screen then polish away.. it comes in various sized bundles, some with cloths &one time use sachets also bundled, i use it on my glasses, my tablets & readers, PC monitors and TV screens. |

I haven't paid attention but don't Kindles come with instructions on cleaning the screen? I recently got a new cell phone and the meager paperwork said nothing about cleaning the screen.
