The Gentlemen's Hour is the second in the short two-book Boone Daniels series by Don Winslow . It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I haven't read either of Winslow's Boone Daniels titles, but have read and enjoyed a couple of his Neal Carey titles, including A Long Walk Up the Water Slide, whose title is up there on my all-time title list, along with other such gems as The Cannibal Who Overate.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Gentlemens-Ho...dp/B004G8QTS4/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-gentlemen-s-hour-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
Boone Daniels lives to surf.

Laid back, ultra–California cool, the former cop turned PI begins each day with the Dawn Patrol, a close-knit group of surfers, best friends who not only ride waves together but have one another’s backs out of the water. It’s the life Boone loves, all he wants. To him, “There’s no such thing as a bad day at the beach.” So when one of their own is murdered—especially an icon like Kelly Kuhio, a local hero—and another surfer, a young punk from the Rockpile Crew, stands accused, the small world of Pacific Beach is rocked to its core.

Boone knows he can no longer ignore the painful truth that violence is seeping into the surfing community. But when he agrees to help the defense, the outrage he courts from the community, and the Dawn Patrol, is more than he ever anticipated. He’s risking losing the relationships that define his life— just when he needs them most.

As Boone digs deeper into San Diego’s murkier side, delving into places the city’s reputation conscious establishment would rather he left alone, it becomes clear that more than a murder case is at stake. He soon finds himself out there alone, struggling to stay afloat as the waves get rougher and rougher . . . and more deadly. It’s The Gentlemen’s Hour—and it could be Boone’s last.

The first and last titles in the Knight & Devlin series by John F. Dobbyn have dropped to $0.99 at Kindle US.

Neon Dragon, #1
link: https://www.amazon.com/Neon-Dragon-K...dp/B0043D2CEC/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Amid the flash and din of Boston's raucous Chinese New Year's celebration, an elderly man is shot while watching the parade from his window. Anthony Bradley, the son of an African-American judge, is standing across the street at the time and is immediately arrested for the crime.Michael Knight, a young lawyer who's going places, is surprised when Judge Bradley asks him to defend his son in such a high profile and politically delicate case. Luckily, Knight finds powerful support from Lex Devlin, a senior partner at his firm. Once the foremost criminal defense attorney in Boston, Devlin has mysteriously withdrawn from defense work in recent years. As Knight and Devlin investigate and prepare their client's defense, Knight is forced to confront the murky allegations that eclipsed his mentor's career, and enter into the shadow world of gangland Chinatown. From the halls of Harvard to the streets of Chinatown, Knight doggedly pursues an investigation that involves drugs, prostitution, human trafficking, and a corruption scandal that could bring down the most powerful people in Boston.

Fatal Odds, #5
link: https://www.amazon.com/Fatal-Odds-Kn...dp/B01BWLIZMA/
Spoiler:
Quote:
Danger escalates as Michael Knight and Lex Devlin enter into the defense of a Puerto Rican jockey charged with felony murder as a result of a fixed race at Boston’s Suffolk Downs.

As their investigation exposes the jockey’s role, they become embroiled in a conflict between two Puerto Rican crime gangs. One of these gangs is aligned for the first time with Boston’s Italian Mafia in tapping into almost limitless profits from the illicit trade of exotic and endangered species of wild animals captured in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil and smuggled through the shoreline of the Florida Keys.

Working to free their client and to prevent the brutal abuse of these vulnerable animals, Michael and Lex find themselves squarely in the crossfire of rival organized crime gangs from the barrio of Jamaica Plain, Boston, to the gang-dominated streets of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

X is the most recent title in the Kinsey Millhone series by Sue Grafton, at least until Y Is for Yesterday comes out (per SYKM) in August. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/X-Kinsey-Mill...dp/B00TY3ZKJA/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/x-is-for

Spoiler:
Quote:
Of #1 New York Times–bestselling author Sue Grafton, NPR’s Maureen Corrigan said, “Makes me wish there were more than 26 letters.” With only two letters left, Grafton’s many devoted readers will share that sentiment.

X: The number ten. An unknown quantity. A mistake. A cross. A kiss.

X: The shortest entry in Webster’s Unabridged. Derived from Greek and Latin and commonly found in science, medicine, and religion. The most graphically dramatic letter. Notoriously tricky to pronounce: think xylophone.

X: The twenty-fourth letter in the English alphabet.

Sue Grafton’s X: Perhaps her darkest and most chilling novel, it features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no trace of his crimes. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. The test is whether Kinsey can prove her case against him before she becomes his next victim.

The Queen's Accomplice is the most recent in the Maggie Hope series by Susan Elia Macneal, at least until The Paris Spy comes out (per SYKM) in August. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US and Kobo US. I've read and enjoyed several titles in this series.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Queens-Accomp...dp/B01AES53OA/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-queen-s-accomplice

Spoiler:
Quote:
Spy and code-breaker extraordinaire Maggie Hope returns to war-weary London, where she is thrust into the dangerous hunt for a monster, as the New York Times bestselling mystery series for fans of Jacqueline Winspear, Charles Todd, and Anne Perry continues.

England, 1942. The Nazis’ relentless Blitz may have paused, but London’s nightly blackouts continue. Now, under the cover of darkness, a madman is brutally killing and mutilating young women in eerie and exact re-creations of Jack the Ripper’s crimes. What’s more, he’s targeting women who are reporting for duty to be Winston Churchill’s spies and saboteurs abroad. The officers at MI-5 quickly realize they need the help of special agent Maggie Hope to find the killer dubbed “the Blackout Beast.” A trap is set. But once the murderer has his sights on Maggie, not even Buckingham Palace can protect the resourceful spy from her fate.

The Alpine Zen is the 26th and most recent in the Alpine Advocate series by Mary Daheim. And no, I didn't have to count . It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Turns out we also now know how Daheim will continue the titles. In spite of my heartfelt support for The Alpine Aardvark, she is going (per SYKM) for Alpha Alpine for the next title, due out in December. Sigh, not nearly as classy as Alpine Aardvark. And one can even imagine The Alpine BB Gun, but I would have had a bit of trouble with The Alpine Cc______...

Anyway, here are links and blurb.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Zen-Em...dp/B00N6PEU8O/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-alpine-zen

Spoiler:
Quote:
The picturesque town of Alpine in the foothills of Washington state’s Cascade Mountains—home to Emma Lord and her weekly newspaper The Alpine Advocate—has long charmed and enthralled mystery lovers. Now, with The Alpine Zen, Mary Daheim has at last reached the anticipated letter of Z. Her legion of avid armchair sleuths will relish this deliciously gripping novel.

Death Comes eCalling is a "modernized" rewrite of Death and Faxes, published in 1996, which is the first title in the Molly Masters series by Leslie O'Kane. Although I haven't read this book, I'm pretty sure I'm not a fan in general of rewriting books just to catch up with technology, but Ms. O'Kane didn't consult me . In any case, YMMV, and Death is free right now at Kindle US, so you can take a look and decide for yourself!

link: https://www.amazon.com/Death-Comes-e...dp/B00PFDP7XC/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Meet Molly Masters, a zany mother and accidental sleuth who owns a one-woman business that creates humorous eCards. After a twenty-year absence, Molly has relocated her family to her childhood home in a suburb of Albany, NY, only to have her husband's reassignment abruptly changed to overseas.

Molly's least-favorite high school teacher dies on the very same day that Molly receives both a letter from that teacher and an anonymous email that threatens Molly's life. All too soon, Molly finds herself knee deep in gossip...and murder.

Poppy Done to Death is the 8th in the Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris, perhaps better known for her Sookie Stackhouse series. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (couponable/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Poppy-Done-De...dp/B01JGYTEAM/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/poppy-done-to-death-3

Spoiler:
Quote:
Aurora Teagarden, mild-mannered librarian, has spent her entire life in the same small Georgia town. Along with her sister-in-law Poppy, Roe has finally earned a coveted spot in the Uppity Women, an exclusive group that does more than flower arranging. But Poppy is a no-show on their induction day. Roe stops by Poppy’s house to find out why and is shocked to discover Poppy dead on the kitchen floor, and it’s not by accident. There’s no lack of suspects, since both Poppy and her husband were unfaithful. Even the detective in charge of the case, Roe’s former lover Arthur Smith, has a past with Poppy.

As if that weren’t enough, Roe has rekindled a relationship with another old flame and things are moving fast, with plans to meet his mother at Thanksgiving. She’s also acquired an unexpected house guest: her half-brother, who’s run away from his parents’ home in California. Balancing her personal life while looking into Poppy’s murder isn’t easy, but Roe is determined to give it -- and Poppy -- her best effort. And when Roe discovers that the crime scene has been ransacked, she knows someone is desperate to hide a secret. Roe will have to dig through Poppy’s life to uncover the truth and bring the killer to justice.

Poppy Done to Death is the engaging eighth installment of the Aurora Teagarden mysteries by #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris. The series has been adapted into film for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
