It's been ages since I've needed to do a factory reset for anything but giving a Kobo to a friend when I got a new one! I use Pocket a lot but I archive or delete articles after reading, removing them from the device.

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I didn't see it.
In this firmware version the chess game (and the other games) seem to have vanished. With the old firmware you could have the Kobo Utilities plugin put the tiles to enter these games back on the home screen. This does not seem to work with this new firmware version. :-(

I do not particularly like the new homescreen. But apart from that my ereader works flawlessly, seems to be even quicker to get to the next page.

That is bad news. We use Kobo Plus, that is why we need to sync the reader to download new books. But if we sync now, it will update the ereader to the new firmware and we lose the games. Terrible choices... ;(

Based on the devices in your profile, the only device that you will lose the games for will be the Glo HD. And that is status quo. The games weren't enabled as part of the firmware on the Glo HD, so strictly you don't lose anything. For the other devices, the games are still there.

Great, you're right! I see now on the Aura HD that has the new firmware, that in the beta features the games still show up. A pity that we lose the tile on the homescreen. But three kobo's with games and two (the glo HD's) without is better than nothing.

The dictionary is not showing a translation if I mark more than one word, although there is a translation in the dictionary, it did show translation in the older firmware.
I don't know way Kobo change it maybe because of MyWords feature.

Hi! I bought my kobo aura h20 yesterday, but I can not download files from my browser and mail. I've read that sometimes you have to install a patch. My firmware is 4.4.9344. How can i fix the problem? thank you all

Terrible new bugs in Kobo Glo?

I discovered my Kobo Glo had updated itself to 4.4.9344 and now I have annoying bugs, which are rendereing my Glo almost useless.

- backlight stays on in sleep mode (never had that before but looks like a common bug now)
- when I finish an article in pocket (swipe past last page or select "delete"), the pop-up menu which lets me choose whether to remove the article only from the reader or the pocket account, is UNDERNEATH the previous popup menu (see picture). if I reselect "delete", I just get additional pop-under menus. I can click on the side of the menu underneath to make it visible, but this is quite annoying.
- the reader went from 100% to 0% in sleep mode (light was off) in two days. it used to last for weeks before the update.

so what do I do now? is there a way to downgrade? I have had the Glo for years without problems, but the way the update broke it is quite unacceptable.

Yes, it seems to be a bug affecting some people. It hasn't affected my devices and I haven't seen a pattern as to when it happens

I haven't seen that before, but I don't use Pocket much.

There seems to be a problem immediately after the upgrade. Charge and restart the device and see what happens.

I recommend that you report these problems to Kobo. This is not a Kobo support forum, so anything discussed here is not guaranteed to get back to them. And if they don't know about the problems, then they can't fix them.

The browser on the device is not that great. It works with simple sites, but there are plenty of more complex sites that it will not work with. But, from my testing, it can download supported ebook formats from quite a few sites. But, for some you will need to change to the a different version of the site to work. For example, I think for dropbox you need to use the desktop version of the site. If you can give an example of the site we can test with, then someone might be able to see what is happening.

The Kobo devices have no support for email. If you are using web-based email, it will depend on the site.

For the light problem, I was able to get mine to stop by powering off and continuing to hold the power button for several seconds. Then after I turned it back on, it behaved properly.

I believe you can downgrade in the same way you would manually upgrade. Haven't tried it myself though.

How to manually upgrade? I'm using Linux and I don't want to install Kobo desktop in my virtual Windows
Unzip the firmware and copy the file KoboRoot.tgz and the folder upgrade to my Kobo Touch (B version)?

Yes, that is the way to do it. Or over WiFi during a sync.
