Aura One light won't turn off when asleep

Hey all,

I just got an Aura One and am still figuring things out. I have a sleep cover for it, and I noticed that if the backlight is on when I'm reading, it doesn't turn off when I close the cover even though the device DOES go to sleep. I thought that was weird, so I tried it another way. I turned on the backlight and then put the device to sleep manually using the back button...and the backlight stayed on again.

Is this normal? I didn't realize this happened the first time and it completely drained my battery overnight. Very weird. Thanks in advance!

There are several reports of the light not going out on some devices when sleeping with the firmware 4.4.9349. I haven't noticed it with my Kobo devices, but, others have. I don't know if there is a pattern about when it happens.

Huh. Okay! So is there a way to go back to an earlier software version? How often does Kobo push patches to their firmware? (I also assume I should report this to Kobo, though I hear their support isn't great.)

If you go back to an earlier firmware version and you sync, you'll have to apply the patch to prevent updating the firmware when you sync.

Sorry if this is dumb, but I'm a newbie to the whole Kobo thing. What does that mean, exactly? Would I need to download an older version of the firmware to my computer, then "sideload" it on? And where can I find the patch you're talking about?

(So. Many. Questions.)

I also noticed just now that every time I wake my Kobo up, it's automatically setting the backlight at 1% even though I have both the natural light and auto brightness set to off. Is this another bug?

Thank you again, and sorry for all the questions.

Check to see if 'Automatically turn off light in bright sunlight' is enabled or not, but another user was having similar issues and reported that those issues stopped when they disabled this setting.

Hello,

I and others here have had this problem. Try these two steps.

1. FULLY power off the device and restart it. Note that you need to fully turn it off, not just put it into sleep mode. To do this, you will need to continue to hold the power button for several seconds after it goes to sleep, until it powers off. Many users found that this fixed the issue.

2. Downgrade to an older firmware, re upgrade to the latest version, and then carry out step 1 immediately if the problem still persists. This fixed the problem for me.

There is a good chance that if this fixes it, then just reinstalling the current firmware will probably fix it. This has solved unusual problems for a lot of people in the past.
