I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I control the frontlight manually rather than relying on Kobo's automatic adjustments, because I find the automatic level eye-searingly bright.
Nope, works fine for me on my KA1. I also have it on manual control. Sounds like something is messed up in your firmware.

It's bad news as it's a bug that needs fixing.

It might be deliberate. For the devices with a flush bezel, if you use the sideswipe to adjust the light and turn it off in a dark room, it might be hard to find the right spot to swipe and turn the light back on. For the other devices, you just run your finger along the edge of the bezel, so turning the light back on isn't that hard.

Because of that, it might be a design change on Kobo's part, not a bug.

This is happening on my Aura HD. I pretty much never use the light, so can't say if it started happening with this firmware or has been doing it for awhile.

On my KA1 I've not seen this issue of the light not turning off.

I also like that you can't turn the light off by sliding along the side. It was annoying on my H2O and frustrating on my KA1

I've never had a problem of accidentally turning up or down the light using the left side adjustment. So to me, this just feels like one big bug.

I've just had the new update (along with the new home screen ) and my left side slider works fine, I can go from 100% down to zero, then back up to 100%. I'm using a H20

I'll have to check the patches to see if I accidentally turned on the 2% light patch.

I haven't had it often but I have had it enough. And in an otherwise pitch dark room it can be very annoying trying to reactivate the light. I suspect Kobo got a lot of feedback along those lines since they also added the ability to disable the swipe to adjust the brightness of the light, previously I think this was possible but only by modifying the configuration file, and even then you'd need to modify it again to turn it back on.

I find swiping to turn on the light in a dark room very easy. I've never not been able to do so. I don't see what all the fuss is about. I don't see how others accidentally change the light setting. It's just too easy not to do so.

You are a sample size of one, what you like is not going to be the same for everyone else.

You'll also find that people hold their devices differently too, right or left handed people plus personal preference, sitting or lying down, leaning against the side of the bus or train. On PT it isn't unusual to get bumped, things happen.

Evidence is mounting that shows Kobo disagrees with you, which likely means enough people disagree with you and voiced that opinion to Kobo that Kobo opted to initiate these changes. Given that full screen reading mode is very popular here on the forums and has only been unofficially allowed by Kobo I can only presume that Kobo received a metric ton of feedback asking for these kinds of change

And how do you know this is not a bug? It's not mentioned as an updated feature anyplace.

So your stance is now that Kobo has extensively noted every change in every firmware update they've released?

You're the only one who has stated definitively that this is a bug using only your personal experience to back up your claim.

I've stated it seems to be a feature based on the feedback of others and myself here in the forums as well as other changes to the side swipe brightness control which seem to be in line with limiting accidentaly turning the light off.
