I followed the guide to downgrade and jailbreak my Kindle Voyage. Now I'm on 5.5 and the jailbreak was successful. Am I still able to upgrade to the latest 5.8.9.2 firmware without losing the jailbreak? Thanks!

Obviously the jb is surviving an upgrade to5.8.9.2. You must install BBB Filter to prevent back door updates that may destroy the jb.(or an OTA Blocker directory)

NEVER PRESS THE RESET BUTTON WHEN ON 5.8.9.2. YOU CANNOT JAILBREAK WITHOUT ACCESS TO THE SERIAL PORT. AS OF NOW THERE IS NO METHOD FOR A SOFTWARE JAILBREAK. NEVER. EVER PRESS RESET .IF YOU REALLY NEED TO THEN POST IT ON MOBILEREAD FORUMS BEFORE A RESET

But did you read the directions?

If the new features in 5.8.9.x aren't really needed, I'd recommend to stay at 5.8.7.0.1 - the last known version that allows a downgrade to the initial factory fw.

Well unless there are multiple revisions of the Voyage (I'm not sure about this) then it should work according to this post:

It is not version specific.

Nothing can prevent firmware modifications done from the operator's console.
Which is one of the reasons computer rooms have locks on the doors.
(The serial port IS the operator's console.)

You should be able to use the serial port. I was busy right then but didn't want you to take apart your kindle without confirmation that it could be done.
