The change should be in the v3 betas as well. Kovid is syncing these sort of changes.

I do. I don't use the tags column, because it's automatically populated with the crap that the publisher thinks is relevant. Rather than going through every book and changing those tags for every book, I just use my custom column for the books that *I* want to add tags to. For instance...I have a collection called "Darkover" that has books set in the Darkover universe, no matter who they were written by. In Calibre, in my custom column is where that is defined. If I look at the built-in "Tags" column, it has multiple entries, none of which I want to use. I know that I can edit the tags manually, but then if I do a metadata download, I will have all of the crap tags back.

Why can't you accept that other people have different wants and needs than you do? ...and please don't say that your wants and needs and workflow are better or more important than mine. Aren't you one of the people that are constantly railing against Amazon because they don't respect the wants and needs of their customers? How are you any different? It's a good thing that you don't work for Kobo, or we would be completely locked in to whatever you have decided is the best way for a reader to work.

Just FYI. Calibre will let you disable downloading of tags if you need to. I can't remember off the top of my head how I did this but if you need it I can probably track it down

It is in the preferences on the "Metadata download" page. Each source can be configure as to what they can download and there is an overall option for each metadata field. Plus some other options that might help keep it clean.

@davidfor, with beta 2.99.6, I've found that some collections (which shouldnt't have books now), still have books and they're not removed. Use case:

* Composite column used for creating collections:
* Initially: S:Psy & Changeling, W:Nalini Singh
* Now: S:Psy & Changeling

The book is not removed from W:Nalini Singh and the collection is still there. I've tried to:

• Sync ereader
• Send the books again to device

Nothing has worked. And the value of the composite column is right (I've checked metadata.calibre in the ereader).

Edit: I'll check tomorrow with 2.99.5 as that version is still installed at other computer.

The driver isn't removing empty collections? Can you run in debug mode and send me the log?
