Download Dictionary
Is it possible to download the Oxford Dictionary to the Kindle device so I can access it when I'm not on-line. And, yes, I know I could have gotten 3G but I didn't and probably won't.

Kindle comes with the Oxford dictionary installed. It will always work offline.

If your Kindle doesn't already have the dictionary you need, you may be able to download it again or find a different one by going to Amazon.com...
Sign in to your account, go to "Manage Your Content and Devices", highlight the "Your Content" tab, then use the dropdown in the upper left and change it to "Dictionaries & User Guides" ... scroll down and the whole list of dictionaries will be there... Make sure your device is registered with Amazon... check the box to the far left of the dictionary you want, then hit the box just to the right... it will offer "Deliver To" and you can specify which registered device is to receive the item. These work on my Kindles just fine... and they are normally offline in Airplane Mode Hope this helps! |

Thank you. I don't know what the problem was. I was at Sam's Club, went to check a word, and was told I didn't have internet access, which I knew. But, now, if I go to airplane mode the dictionary works fine. Next Sunday, I'll try again at Sam's and see what happens.

Thank you. I read a lot of novels written by British authors using local slang. Perhaps that is what happened.
