Check that you don't have any conflicting patches enabled: `ePub fixed/adjustable top/bottom margins` or `Disable reading footer`. There are notes about this in the patch files:

A suggestion for the shell script so it does not depend on the current directory is to add this to the top of the script:

Also /bin/sh needs to be replaced with /bin/bash.

EDIT: After testing again the patch is okay, you probably copy it wrong or you enable two patches that don't supposed to work together.

Is it just me or would it be nice to have shutdown times more along the lines of 24h/48h/72h?

Can I just change the values in the libnickel.so? Or will this be a problem with the size of int or whatever?

Yes, I'd like the current sleep timings with a power off of about three days. That way any device left for a while will power off and not run out of battery. But, unless there has been a change, my memory says that the maximum that can be set for the 255 minutes.
