Yes, best news I have heard all day. That really would leave all current 13.3" ereaders looking rather shabby should they be able to pull it off.

I must admit that I don't see the Android version as a big deal. When I had an eInk Android device (Onyx T68), the sort of apps I wanted to run on it ran just fine an Android 4. What do you want to run on an eInk device that requires Android 6?

ie security related, fixes, xposed framework, xprivacy,... theres no advantage if you are using the boox offline.

Well, from the specs mentioned, Android 6 was only a part of it. The device will have more RAM, a speedier processor and HDMI capabilities. That would go a long way to making the device more versatile.

As for the advantage of Android 6 over 4.0.4, it might allow me to install and run some drawing/sketching apps that won't work with my current Max. The size of the Max is wonderful for sketching which is something that I would like to get back into doing.

I think Microsoft Office apps requires at least Android 4.4 and there are some new PDF annotation apps that also require at least Android 5, so Android 6 would guarantee some longevity for the device. I just hope it will be easy to purchase when you live in Japan.

Booxtor mentioned that Onyx was working on Max 2 year ago. It could be ready this summer.
Dasung is working on pretty similar 13.3 reader/monitor. Sony's new Digital Paper will be available this summer.

It came to the point where there's more competition and they know the can't sell Android 4.0 for €800 anymore.

I agree, the competition is not sleeping. Dasung is already taking preorders, Sony showed their cards also so it's time for Onyx to show a product that will at least keep their current customer base from migrating, let alone get new customers.

As for the price, I wouldn't be surprised to see close to 1000 euros price tag here. I am really happy that the are finally upgrading the cpu, there was a talk that they might use IMX 7, will see.

I was under the impression that the strongest imx7 is the i.MX 7Dual with two cores (http://www.nxp.com/products/microcon...rs:IMX7-SERIES). This would suggest that the quad core here (if it's true) would have to be something else... Initially, I thought maybe mediatek, but their largest quad core chip seems to be 1.7ghz and beyond that they have hexa and octa cores only.

Sony will use in new Digital Paper 2 SoC by Marvell IAP140 64-bit Quad-core wich supports EPD.

No surprise when iMX7 was so delayed after Freescale was acquired by NXP and now that Qualcomm will buy NXP.

Unfortunately this information was not supposed to go public yet.
The picture does not show the Max 2. Max Monitor is is just kind of internal indication for one of the future version in the 13.3 series. Those shown specs are also similar to Max 2 but Max 2 will offer more. E.g. for Max is planed to be equipped with dual touch, Bluetooth etc. Monitor should be less equipped and therefore should be a little bit less expensive. Monitor also is not on scheduled for this year AFAIK

Max 2 will come with HDMI . Max Carta should have same abilities as Max and can be used as second monitor by applying of in another thread already discussed tools. No additional hardware in it for this purpose though.
