Calibre can still transfer to your Kindle, you just might need to convert to azw3 or mobi first. You only need the jailbreak if you want to use epub on the kindle.

@mathATX, I believe that is correct, There is currently no know software jailbreak above 5.8.7

And the Oasis has currently no know hardware jailbreak ( nobody has found the serial port inside it ).

How do you feel about opening it up and giving us more pictures of everything disassembled, and all the cables removed? :-)

You should be able to send files from Calibre to it, and I don't think Calibre has been able to make collections on the newer kindles even if they are jailbroken.

yes I have been able to transfer my books in azw3 but i wanted to transfer collections as well. I have several hundred books in Calibre and collections make it easier to sort through them. Calibre has a plugin to transfer collections

thanks for your answer, I thought the link above would allow me to transfer collections on a jailbroken kindle. I hope you are kidding about opening up my kindle, i am not that good with technical stuff so I am going to stick to what I know

Time to try out Amazon's cloud collections? They aren't as easy, but they do transfer from kindle to kindle with no work at all.

1) There is no software only jailbreak for 5.8.9
There is a serial port jailbreak for ANY firmware version.
No one has identified the serial port on a KOA nor provided pictures to find it photographically (yet).

2) Correct.

3) Correct.
On touchscreen devices, a jailbreak and a Kindle resident program is required to import the externally generated collections.

Translation:
For a KOA device, running any firmware after the release of 5.8.7.0.1 (any newer firmware, that is, yours) there currently is no way to jailbreak it, either by software or for the KOA, by the serial port.
If the serial port can be found, then that method would still work.

Collections import on a touchscreen device requires a jailbroken device.

KOA owners already running 5.8.8 or 5.8.9 are S.O.L.

The big problem with using cloud collections is that it is limited to books purchased from Amazon. Personal documents and sideloaded books do not appear there.

And I don't think Calibre has an interface for the Amazon collections web page nor does Amazon publish an API for doing the web page collections remotely.

The question was how to transfer Calibre collections.
The answer for a KOA running 5.8.9 (the o.p.) is type them in by hand for the ones Amazon will handle.

I **think** the cloud collection web page will also handle books sent by 'send to Kindle'.
I have not actually tried that myself.

The off-site teardown I haven't seen, and it isn't indexed on the KOA index.
In fact, the KOA does not even have an index page.

@knc1, the case looks like it has more hardware than the kindle itself!

The number of connections on the connector between the case and the oasis always surprised me, I'm half convinced that its something related to that, but I'm not an expert, that's for sure.

I see several unpopulated pads on page 14/24, that I think could be serial, the one right above the battery cable looks the most like the existing ones.

But that big battery looks like it has 8 pins labelled, so that's probably not it.

As I suggested above, try using "send to Kindle" (e-mail via Amazon to your Kindle) for one or two of them.
That **might** make them available on your accounts 'manage content' web page.

yes they become available in "Docs" on the 'manage content' amazon web page. However, documents in 'Docs' cannot be sorted into collections. The option is only available for books bought on amazon.

That is about as user friendly as when Amazon discontinued nested collections.

Bad for them, good for us.

This developer forum is driven by the number of people Amazon piss-off with their poorly planed features.
If they did things "right", we would have nothing to improve on.
