But mine were perfect on the original Aura. Now they aren't. Stats were 209 books in 1386 hours. Now it says I read 39 books in 1386 hours.

On the KA1 the stats say 12 books in 125 hours. I do read 7 books per month and need nearly 8 hours for one on average. So the stats are completely off on both readers now.

But I do have to admit the original Aura was synched after I installed the firmware. Maybe this messed it up. OTOH I should be able to synch it just fine without things being messed up, shouldn't I?

There are over 900 books on my original Aura and nearly 600 on the KA1, all sorted into collections manually. I won't do this again. Even if I set it up on Calibre it would mean I'd have to go through my entire library to 1. mark the read books and 2. put them into collections there.

No. I think I'm done spending hours on the thing. I can read with it just fine, the collections are all intact, the and the screen size is a gorgeous as ever. This is enough to have a pleasant reading experience. So I won't upgrade again and I'll think very hard before I buy a Kobo again.

The way Kobo is counting books finished has changed. It has actually returned to a method used a long time ago. The finished book count is the number of book currently on the device that are in a finished state. The previous was using a different method and counted some stats records that were not removed when you removed a book from the device.

The hours are calculated in the same way as before. So, it should be the total amount of time spent reading using that device.

after spending some hours with this F/W

I like the book list in cover format: big enough on the One to be able to read author and title, with the status (% read or unread or finished) underneath, making the list format almost superfluous. I wish there was the series info too on a separate line (there is room enough), and it would be perfect if I could add the number of pages, but I don't see how that would be possible.

I resent the loss of any return or home button from that list: going top left and choosing from the drop list is annoying.

I like being at long last able to look up my words in dictionaries and the sort choice (alpha or recent), but it still needs improving: adding words is difficult and trying to access a book from which I chose the word had the reader restarting.

I like the top zone of the home page: better looking book tiles without the superfluous info about annotations, possibility of dismissing the book from the reader when dismissing a tile.

In the middle zone, the choice of covers shown is no use to me. More small tiles would be much better to my taste. I'd love to have one for the book lists, one for collections, one for series - and one for Pocket if it worked for me, but it hasn't for a while, more is the pity.

I hate the bottom zone: I never download a kobo book direct to readers, so the left side button is no use to me. The right side button is a disaster: it rotates mostly kobo bookstore related topics (wishlist or discover books similar to those you read), once in a while the user's manual, but this is impossible to pin into place once you open it - it doesn't even appear in the books read on the top zone.

Thanks for the answer. Is a pity they have decided to make this change. I really liked to know how many books I have read on the device. It makes no sense for me to keep books that I already finished on the Aura so this new way of measuring is a non sense...

When I did the upgrade yesterday, my Aura One was at 95% charged. This morning it was completely dead. It seems the update may have re-introduced the battery drain issue on the Aura One. Looks like I will be attempting to roll back to the previous software. Has anyone else had this issue with the new firmware?

I also noticed last night while using the device that the light does not turn off when the reader goes into sleep mode. I had to turn it off before putting the reader down for the night. So the light being on was NOT the cause of the battery drain.

I rolled back to firmware 4.3.9084. It appears that the light issue went away. We will see if it is dead tomorrow morning.....

My One, which wasn't fully charged after reading at least a couple of hours yesterday evening was fine this morning after sleeping 7 hours - just like me.

One happy thing to report is the charging light went from red to green when fully charged.
It had been stuck on red for the last few releases.

So far I really like this update -- the top bar navigation with respect to settings is cleaner and more useful, I think, and I find the page refreshes and touch sensitivity as good, if not better, than ever. It would be nice if they let us customize the new home screen a bit, but it's not a big deal to me.

I'm still having the problem (Aura One) where if wi-fi is NOT on, and I press sync, it will turn on wi-fi (after asking) and pretend to be syncing, but not actually do it until I cancel sync and re-press it (with wi-fi already on). Again, not a biggie, although I'm surprised it persists.

For me, it seemed to be okay until I tried adjusting the light by swiping up/down the left side of the screen, which worked. However, after I did that, I noticed that battery drain accelerated greatly and the light did not turn off when the Aura One went to sleep. Perhaps that functionality is where the bug is.

I then upgraded to 4.4.9298, and immediately went to Device Information to see if the SD card was there. Nope. All I saw was Onboard Storage--no SD card. Wi-Fi on or off didn't matter.

I decided to load a book into main memory, just so I could read SOMETHING until the SD card issue is fixed, but discovered another issue (possibly with sideloaded kepubs only?) where the page number stays at 1 and the time to end of chapter stays at 0 seconds. That was annoying enough that I gave up and downgraded back to 4.3.8966, where everything is working as it should. I can read books on the SD card, the page numbers increment correctly, and time to end of chapter is a reasonable number.

I give up.
I have exactly the same issue, perfectly functioning SanDisk Ultra 32GB MicroSD HC I Class 10 and now it is useless.

How did you downgrade, can you point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I downgraded and upgraded several times, trying to track down the problem before finally giving up and deciding to wait for Kobo to fix this. I downgraded two different ways (both methods seemed to work just fine):

1. I did a factory reset from the Settings/Device information menu. Be aware that you will need to set up your device from scratch if you do this. You'll need to re-register it, wait for it to sync, apply any patches, reload your books, etc. Pain in the tookus.

2. I downloaded the Mark 5 4.3.8966 firmware to my computer, unzipped it, connected the H20 to the computer via the usb port, and dragged the contents of the zip file to the .kobo directory of the H20. Then I ejected the H20 and waited for it to reboot. Voila. Done. There did not seem to be any problems caused by going backwards to 4.3.8966. I don't know if downgrading to a previous firmware release would cause problems or not, but 4.3.8966 works great for me while I wait for Kobo to figure this out.

Edit: This only happens to books loaded after 4.4.9298. All books loaded prior to upgrading to 4.4.9298 show up as "on device" in Calibre consistently. Only books loaded after the 4.4.9298 upgrade disappear (in Calibre) after disconnecting and reconnecting.

I have the exact same problem here. Nothing I do seems to work! So annoying!

I would suggest everyone who is affected by the SD card bug contact Kobo. The fact that we're seeing that some card work and others don't regardless of size, class, or make, would seem to indicate they didn't see this bug and are unaware of it.
