![]() Have you tried running Firefox in with extensions disabled. Most of my Firefox 'problems' are caused by extensions. I gave up trying to figure which extensions were the culprits, instead I installed two extra extensions - Open in Chrome and Open in Edge ![]() My Chrome and Edge installs have minimal add-ons, whereas Firefox has a lot. =================================== @Kovid - what controls the columns displayed for a book when I click on it and I get the Read and Download buttons. It doesn't appear to equate with the Look & Feel->Book Details settings, nor with what I see in Book Information - the non-modal dialogue that shows everything, except empty columns. My usage of the server is to look at an author's list of books and at the book metadata. My ideal would be to see the columns selected within the Look & Feel->Book Details tab, in the order nominated. With display time options for Show All and Show Empty Columns. BTW I solved my backspace problem, it seems Google removed it around June last year, in August they released the Go Back With Backspace extension ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-11-2017 at 06:13 PM. |

@kacir Open the dev tools in Firefox and see if any errors are printed to the console.
I'll test out your books in Firefox later today. |

@BR: At the moment, nothing. Sometime in the future I might make that configurable.
It's not clear to me that using the same settings as in the GUI is the right thing to do -- after all the use cases for the two may well be different. On the other hand, it seems silly to have multiple sets of settings for very similar things. On the third hand, since the server can be run independently of the GUI, having it depend on configuration that can only be altered from the GUI is not a good idea. So just create a script to launch the gui that shuts down the server service, runs the GUI and restarts it the GUI quits. You can even have the GUI auto start its embedded server on launch, so the service will be unavailable for only a few seconds.

And as the server UI gains the ability to make changes to the library you will find yourself only needing to run the main GUI for more complex tasks -- the server UI will be much simplified compared to the main GUI.
You could instead just open a browser that conencts ot the running service and perform basic tasks like adding/deleting books, editing metadata, converting. |

The ideal is to have the GUI be able to connect to a server as a backend -- but that is a whole order fo magnitude more work to accomplish

I'd be happy to have a separate settings for GUI and Server Especially if I can get a Show empty values option - its lack often drives me to ![]() BR |

Hi Kovid,
I did some more tests and there seems to be two minor issues with cover pictures. 1. PDF: in the past the behavior was to add/generate the first page of an PDF document as cover. That seems not to happen now 2. Drag&Drop of an image as cover in the metadata editor window. Here I become a error warning that the file (*.jpg) isn't a valid picture. If I load the picture as file it works as expected calibre 2.99.3 Windows 64bit Windows 10 64bit (1607) |

Since Wednesday I am working with the Caliber Beta (since yesterday 2.99.3) in productive operation. Of course I have made a backup before.
![]() Until now, everything works fine. I've added books in Caliber, edited with the editor, and copied eBooks to my ›Kobo Aura H2O‹. Everything is OK. I also have no problems with the installed plugins. A conversion from AZW3 to ePUB has also worked perfectly. I don't use the server, because I do not need it so far. @DivingDuck: Getting the first page as cover from PDF files works for me on my windows machine. Can you attach a PDF file for which it fails? The problem with drag and drop in the edit metadata window is fixed by: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...27094c2f67641c
@Martina: Thanks, good to know. |

FYI,
I installed 2.99.3 portable on Win10 and did basic testing with the plugins I maintain and most commonly use. I encountered no issues with the new Calibre. Version details: Spoiler:
