To be honest I'm not a great one for playing around with my devices. As long as they do what I want (i.e. allow me to read a book) I tend to leave them as they are.
I've just read all this thread as it came up while I was searching for something (which wasn't actually covered here).

I think it's funny that you say that you don't "play around with your devices as long as they do what you want", however if they're not in the folder order you want you go to crazy lengths!
You can only see the folder structure from the PC, once you're reading the book on the reader, or even choosing which book to read, does it matter where it is in the directory structure on the device?

I've learnt that I need to look into the Calibre options a bit more from reading this thread, still undecided on which format to use though.

Hi guys,

I just got my Kobo Aura One today, I tried the drag and drop method but I can't find my ebook on KA1, I used Adobe digital edition, it did not work either. I tried to convert my txt (my ebook is in txt. format) into epub using Calibre and "send it to my device" and my Kobo can't detect the file. I would need your advice. Thanks!

Update:
After doing a factory reset, I manage to see my file (in epub)

Glad you got it sorted, but if you have the issue again, the 1st culprit is usually people putting their sideloaded books under a directory on the device with a period in front of the name (i.e. the .kobo directory or it's subdirectories). Those directories are considered the domain of the OS and the reader doesn't look for books in them.

I don't know why Ashjuk wants the books in the correct folders with a nice directory structure, but I know why I want that.

I don't always have Calibre with me (my phone, for instance, doesn't have Calibre installed) but I sometimes connect my reader to my phone to add, or more importantly update, books. Having a good clean directory structure makes finding the location of said book a lot easier.

If you're concerned about where the books are on the reader, you can set that nicely in the plugin. Mine are all sitting in a books/ directory without crazy subdirectories, so they would be pretty easy to find.

Calibre has a "Save template" to specify the full path of the file when sent to the device. Each driver can override this so there is something specific to the device. The driver will usually have an option to set the template. The KoboTouch driver definitely does have a save template that you can change.

My books are put in their respective folder and subfolders and subsubfolders, all by Calibre, using custom fields to define where each book has to go ( a very complicated field, I can say ) And I simply put that custom field in the Save Template of the Kobo driver.
