Multiple indexes - is it possible?

Hi folks,

I've rummaged around on the net and poked about in Sigil and cannot find a solution to this issue, so I thought I'd ask here...

I'm currently 'involved' (read providing Tech Support) for an e-pub collaboration using Sigil.

The book is a refresh of a Natural History (flora and fauna) based epub2 (created with Sigil a couple of years ago) and has a large number of Latin names (over 1000) which made fo interesting spell checking, until I twigged that I could manually create/edit/check a "Latin" user dictionary.

However, for this new revised edition we're trying to provide an "Index of Latin Names" separate from the normal English "Index".

Anyone managed / hacked their way through doing this or something similar?

Any help/advice gratefully received...

If you have a list of all Latin names (e.g. latin_names.txt) you could use the built-in index generator:

Tools > Index > Index Editor... > Open > latin_names.txt
Tools > Index > Create Index

latin_names.txt must be a plain text utf8 file with either one entry per line or two tab-separated entries per line.

If the Latin is marked up with language tag 'la' you could use the calibre epub editor to get a list of the Latin words via Tools->Report->Words. It can save to a csv file which you can sort in a csv file handler.

And if you installed a scientific Latin hunspell dictionary into the calibre editor you should be able to spell check the Latin and as well as the main language.

Hi, and thanks for the reply, this is what I'm doing already...

I can generate my "Index of Latin Names" quite happily, it's generating a new standard index afterwards I'm having a problem with.

I've even gone to the extreme of renaming index.xhtml to latin.xhtml and replacing the existing index tags with something different ie:

id="sigil_index_id_3" becomes id="LATIN_3" in both the content and the index.

This works to a point but when I create a new index file latin.xhtml gets trashed.

The index tool will check the .opf file for this entry:

  <guide>
    <reference type="index" title="Index" href="Text/Index.xhtml"/>
  </guide>

I.e., renaming the existing index file won't work. You'll also have to comment out or delete all existing index type .opf file entries.
