I can't believe the resolution hasn't upgraded to 300 ppi.
From my perspective, there isn't much of a "new and improved" vibe to this. |

Can it be? I didn't think their were 300 ppi (or greater) 6.8" panels out there.
I know it should be technically possible, but I don't think eInk offers a product with those specs. I can see that, from the perspective of a current H2O owner. As someone still using an Aura HD I'm tempted. Not sure how I feel about no microSD slot. On the one hand 8GB is more than enough for my current library & expansion, but I've gotten used to keeping my whole library on a card instead of the device storage. Well, e-ink could have surprised us by debuting the higher-res screen with the new Aura H2O

I own an Aura HD. I definitely see the new H2O as an improvement, both for me personally, and in comparison to the original device. I like the back, the new water proofing, and the 8 GB. I plan to get one.

That's kind of what I was expecting, but obviously I read too much into the upgrade. This boils down to a mere product refresh and since they're maintaining the price, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just rather a damp squib.

I'll stick with my Kobo Aura One. The new H2O isn't bad, but it's basically just bringing the comfort light and the new waterproofing to the current H2O while removing the SD card slot. I'm sure it weighs a bit less and has a smaller physical footprint than the current model which will help differentiate it from the One.
I wonder if Kobo is going to try and support three models now, a 6, 6.8, and 7.8 |

I like the Pro lighting. I don't like the lower PPI. I don't like the elimination of the SD card slot. I'm not sure about the reduced battery. No mention of on device library borrowing?
I'm going to pass. I hope they add a "premium" 6" device. |

The FCC filing indicated it was the same battery as the current H2O. So should have the same battery life.

The battery is the same rating as the original H2O as the screen PPI. You do lose the uSD card but gain 4GB of internal storage while losing the slot cover. The current firmware for the H2O 2nd Ed. does not support Overdrive. From the spec sheets, the only dimension that changes is the thickness which loses .8mm while the weight drops by 23g (210g vs 233g for the original H2O).

Or someone at Kobo realized that their reading for 30 minutes per day with WiFi and light off for the 2 month battery life was unrealistic and/or made the KA1's battery life look worse that it already is?
