Thanks. Great to be back to keep this thread about Max Carta.

As expected to open​ the apps or the books Max Carta is slower than the 1st generation Max. Once opened, the page speed is almost the same.
300MB PDF took between 20-30s.

Shipped with Android 4.0.4 and no hand touch. Pen only.
New display is much better due to higher resolution and Regal technology.

New Sony's DPT-RP1 has clear advantage at the moment apart from being officially locked.

I would be interested in a video comparison. I have the original Max and was wondering if the new Carta is worth an update.

Well, now I have to retract my snarky comment (since I thought it was a bit ridiculous that so many words where spent discussing something that could be trivially demonstrated as being false): I checked in a pitch dark room and there's a faint glow, indeed — so the light is not *totally* off as I thought. Mea culpa.

I'm not here to defend the Kindle, btw, but when the slider is at zero the light is so faint that can only be noticed in a pitch dark room — and barely. There will be absolutely zero impact when reading because it's completely unnoticeable when there's any incident light at the screen. The only thing to be annoyed about is the unnecessary waste of battery.

Changing subject since I'm posting anyway, I still have an old Kindle DX and I would love to own a Max, but I find it simply too expensive for what it does. I don't need it *that* badly. Plus I find it ridiculous that a brand new, expensive device in 2017 is running Android 4.x.

I can see it and some of the other forum guys, too. I wouldn't have mentioned it if it would not be nerve ranking. Other may be less susceptible but I can assure you it has not 'absolutely zero impact' to some users.

In my opinion the light is still always on to be able to fake the 'paperwhite' color for the Kindle Paperwhite. If disabled it is a little bit more grey.

I seem to recall Booxtor being very excited and saying that the Max2 would be much more impressive than current 13.3" eink ereaders. But apart from that, he was rather secretive, saying that he was yet allowed to divulge any other information about the device other than to say that it was scheduled to come out in October of this year.

Was there some other announcement that I missed?

Definitive specs doesn't seem to be public at the moment. I recommend to be patient while waiting ...

Plenty patient here. I'm enjoying my current Max as is and hope to be enjoying it even more when the next firmware update becomes official. So no hurry on my end.

I was just curious if I had missed something because you seemed to be making a definitive comment about the Max2 and I was just wondering what that was based on.

Yes. As Booxtor mentioned several times before that Max 2 will have both touch and pen.
Yes Max 2 will have updated processor. It should have i.mx7 dual core but it can change as there are new players compatible with EPD displays.

Sorry I missed the question.

It depends what you name as Onyx 2. There are no definitive answers. I suspect the Onyx 2, if you mean the device which will come out in the fall, will have additional 'finger touch' and a dual core processor but we will wait and see.
