I apologize for forgetting about your post two days ago.

I am bad about making what I'm going to call a GBTI (Get Back to It). It's not that the matter isn't important, interesting, or whatever. But other things come up, I get distracted, and, quite honestly, I forget to go back and address (in this case, think about) that initial matter. Your posts were almost certainly instances of those.

I have too much "on my plate." To change the metaphor, I'm trying to juggle too many things in my life right now.

If I've done that to other MobileReaders, I apologize to you, as well.

It's a bad habit, I know. There's poor prioritizing and poor time management and probably several other poor things on my part involved. I make too many things "essentials," when they're not--they're just "want tos."

Quite honestly, this is the first time that I feel that a GBTI has come back and bitten me.

It's a wake-up call. I will make changes.

O, come on! You're doing a great job here and if every now and again you forget to answer a query, you're excused before the fact. It's not like you're getting paid for your work, is it? I, for one, very much appreciate your work.

Memoirs of a Professional Cad by George Sanders

What might we dare to expect from an actor’s autobiography, even one from a star as personable as George Sanders? In the case of Memoirs of A Professional Cad, we possibly get more than we deserve. George Sanders undoubtedly led a colourful, glamorous and even action-packed life, spanning the peak years of Hollywood’s golden age. But the greatest joy of his memoirs is how funny they are, and how penetrating their author’s wit. Endlessly quotable, every chapter shows that the sardonic charm and intelligence he lent to the silver screen were not merely implied.

I appreciate your kind words.

The problem is that the GBTI issue has not been an "every now and again" matter. I do it a lot, when no one else realizes it, and there probably has been other cases where someone has noticed it and just not said anything to me about it. I consider bgalbrecht to have done me a favor bringing it up.

I, myself, get frustrated with a person (unless I know that there's something mentally wrong with them), when I tell them something, they acknowledge that they heard it and understood it, and then turn around right after that and do something that shows that they either weren't paying attention or didn't really understand it, as they said that they did. I can't fault bgalbrecht.

Oh, and the reason that I didn't make a post of the current Packt freebie had nothing to do with this issue. It's just that it was too esoteric, IMHO. Many people know what Linux is, but the matters that the book discussed about Linux were things that it seems to be that only an elite few would understand or have use for. I'll check Packt again after a new free ebook has been posted after 7 p.m. tonight.

At Amazon.com, too.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002SRL3EU

Also an attractive Whispersync price.

This fits in nicely with one of my annual challenges; thanks!

ETA: Since it's Simon & Schuster, it should be priced the same at other purveyors (i.e. Kobo) in Canada and the US.

Thanks to both of you.

I tend to go audio lately, because I have quite a bit of time for listening now, but very little for reading. The Whispersync deal might be a must-buy. The ebook has 612 pages, so that translates into a long narration (think: "bang for the buck"), and the audio alone at Audible is $29.95!

Polk is not a well-known President, possibly because, it seems to me, the Mexican-American War is not taught much in American schools. What little that I have heard puts Polk in a poor light, because of his connection with the War. I would like to know the facts of the matter.

Huh? Oh that's right, it wasn't fought in your state so it wasn't covered there.
Trust me when I say the M-A war was covered in detail in all our schools. And one of my ancestors was one of the big generals of that war.

There are so many books and other works about Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, etc. that it's hard for any one work to stand out. This one stands out.

This ebook's got great ratings--4.3 (39) at Amazon; 4.12 (890) at GoodReads (an excellent rating, to be from GoodReads raters). It's a best seller in one Kindle category.

It's only 99 cents right now, which is only 7% of the digital list price (list is $13.49).

I guess that I should mention the title? ha It's Nazi Germany and the Jews: Volume 1: The Years of Persecution 1933-1939, by Saul Friedlander. There is a Volume 2, The Years of Extermination: Nazi Germany and the Jews, 1939-1945, which is not currently marked down; I'm sure that the hope by the publisher or whoever is that peeps will buy the cheapo, and decide that they have to get the second volume right away (are you going to read this 464-page book in one day? I didn't think so) . . . . I recommend that you set a price notification at ereaderiq.com to let you know when Volume 2 drops in price.

https://www.amazon.com/Nazi-Germany-...dp/B000SEP0HQ/.

Was it Pershing? If so, I worship the ground that you stand on.

"My state" was Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky. Take your pick.

I was in three different elementary schools (no, it wasn't because of being a discipline problem. ha), all in different school systems, growing up. Different school systems have different years when they cover different subjects (I feel like I got a double (triple?) dose of some things, while missing some subjects altogether. That's possibly the case with the M-A for me. I feel like I missed a lot of grammar; I know that I missed out on Alabama history, Georgia history, and Kentucky history, just because of the way that things worked out).

Texas is next door to Mexico, and once was a part of Mexico. Could that not make a difference in the curriculum in the school system(s) that you were in???

Nueces River, Goliad, Alamo, San Jacinto.
The major reason for the war was the River, Texas wanted to the Rio Grande and Mexico wanted to the Nueces River.

So yes I am pretty sure location is the reason, it was heavily covered.
Note: Bowie and Crockett are schools here. Along with Goliad, San Jacinto and Alamo.

Winfield Scott was the ancestor.

You are supposed to worship the ground I walk on because I am such a joy.

Now back to books.
