It does. The chapters on her pre-stardom life devoted a decent-sized section to it. IIRC, despite her family being relatively well-off, the food situation was bad enough that she suffered malnutrition which stunted her growth (although she still managed to get to 5'7" in height) and gave her lifelong health problems, and also she smuggled messages for the resistance in her shoes and had a few close calls when occupying soldiers would stop and talk to her while she was doing so.

She died at an early age (63, I think). I wondered if the malnutrition might have contributed to that, too. Maybe no doctor could say definitively.

Believe it or not, during the siege of Leningrad, the suffering from hunger and malnutrition was even worse. There was quite a bit about that in a biography that I read about composer Shostakovich.

The ratings were excellent at Amazon, there just weren't many of them. At GoodReads, where there was an adequate amount of ratings (a lot of them, in fact), the ratings were good, but no better than that.

I understand the basic concept of this free Packt book, so maybe it will have a broad enough appeal that at least someone will want it.

I hope that Packt locks out Google, the NSA, Facebook, and a host of other companies/organizations from getting this book. IMHO, they've already got too much data on each of us, and I don't want to help them use that data.

If so, that wouldn't be the answer to why Paris Hilton, especially, is treated as special.

Donald Trump was treated special before he ran for President. I think that the main reason must be that he has money. Lots of money. But I remember a time (early 90's or so) when the Donald fell on hard times. Was only a multi-millionaire, I think that he had to sell his yacht (would someone pass me a Kleenex? I think that I'm about to cry. Yes, I am. ) . But he was still treated special then. In his case, maybe it is as much flamboyance as it is money.

Maybe it's for just a whole lot of different reasons. I'm sure that someone, somewhere has written a book or at least a dissertation on the subject, or done some studies on it, written one or more peer-reviewed journal articles about it . . . .

In point of fact, I missed your post somehow. It is of little consequence if I miss a general post, but when it is one that is directed at, or even applies to, me, I consider it to be an egregious oversight.

As it happens, when I read your email just now, Packt was showing slightly over 6 hours left on the deal, and the time here was just under 1 p.m. ET U.S. Even I could see that the deal didn't end at 12 noon! In fact, it was even fairly easy for me to see that it, in fact, ends at 7 p.m.

Without having to think through it (unless Packt changes the ending time!), I will know from now on their deals end at 7 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.
