Dasung is teasing a new e-ink monitor on their twitter:
https://twitter.com/dasungtech?lang=en It seems like the old model but with Carta screen. I wonder what it means for their forthcoming e-reader? Did they scratched the project and decided to stay in the market of e-ink monitors only? With Onyx Max now supporting screen mirroring and forthcoming Max Carta with hdmi dongle I don't see much space for another Paperlike unless they provide something extra. Will see! |

The Pew and Statista numbers matches up quite well with numbers I've see on other sites -- unfortunately quite a few of those sites are quoting one of those two. Please note that these are dedicated ereaders. Quite a few people are now using tablets, phablets, phones, etc. as their major ereader and simply are not interested in carrying around two devices. The same site(!) has this graph which has figures up to 2014, but the figures for 2010-2012 are wildly different to the previous graph. I suspect that no-one has real figures except the companies involved. But with the rise of tablets I'm quite willing to beleive that E-Ink based ereader sales have dropped a bit from a high in 2011/2012. Last edited by pdurrant; 04-29-2017 at 05:33 AM. |

I read on a Surface Pro 4 and consider it an eBook reader. To me any electronic device that can read eBooks is an eReader. I like the Surface Pro 4 because I have Calibre installed on my reader and I always have access to everything. Whether it is eInk or any other electronic median does not matter to me.

Not sure to which video (and which device) you're referring to but both new Dasung Monitor and ereader/tablet are being advertised with 2200x1650 resolution.

this would be a great device if it can be interfaced with mobile phones. imaging using initiating ANY ebook app from the phone, then sending it to the monitor, much like google cast. it would cast to the monitor. from that point on, the monitor should take control of the app. of course, to make this work, the app should be aware that there is now another screen attached and adjust accordingly.

It's coming with a HDMI connection but apparently it's going to be a monitor only again. I'm interested but 1000 dollars is just so much for a monitor. Does anyone know something about the returning policy of dasung products ?

However I think Onyx Max without hdmi dungle would be considerably slower than a monitor with hdmi. I wonder though if the dasung product is made to be faster since it was specifally designed to be a monitor. Last edited by tracey1; 05-27-2017 at 09:36 AM. |

$1000 is high...
They claim "no mouse delay" with their new model, I would like to see that. If you can wait, I would wait fo MAX 2 that will have hdmi, bluetooth, e-reader functionality and more. Currently I think that Max Carta is the best solution for E-ink Monitor using VNC. On Hong-kong fair they showed a special dongle between computer's hdmi and usb for Carta - hopefully we will be able to buy it soon. As for Dasung, I would wait for some video reviews, so far it looks like they upgraded the screeen (as Onyx,Sony and Remarkable) and added hdmi - not much extra for so much money. |

Worth pointing out that the new model have 5 buttons instead of 3 in the previous one. This might suggest that they created a new refresh modes, like before with their FLOYD mode.
This is interesting, although I am skeptical: for me the problem with refresh rate is mainly hardware related. Unless they put more powerful cpu inside, the software tricks won't make much difference. I was trying to identify what is drawn on these buttons, but the image quality is low... One looks like a speaker button, so maybe they added audio support also with some speakers - for me completely useless features. I guess we'll have to wait!
