I decided that the H2O is the best e-ink device for me, given my budget. I am mostly ok with the blinking in between pages when there are no images, and for most books, I will simply delete the images. Unfortunately for a textbook, images are important.
I can't wait until I get a TFT reader. And then a Samsung tablet when I can afford it

If the flashing bothers you that much, maybe you can try to get into the habit of looking away or closing your eyes for a second or two when changing pages. It might be good to take that opportunity to reflect on what you just read in the last page; that would help with memory retention and take some of the focus off the page change.

The page turning doesn't bother me as much. It's when there are graphics or menus. It is more difficult to close my eyes in the middle of each menu press, but I do sometimes.

If you do want to get a tablet for reading, I highly suggest and iPad Mini. It's a really good size. There is also a blue light filter built into iOS. The only thing I do not reccomend is using iBooks (rubbish).
As for eInk, if the H2O's flashing is a bother, I cannot see any other eInk based device being any better as that's how eInk is. One good thing I like with my H2O is that I can turn the light down low and still be able to read. Have you tried reading using ePub (not kepub) to see if the flashing is any better? There is a patch for the current versions of the firmware to allow you to set the full screen flash to 99. I do have a bedside led light that works very well for reading. It's from Ikea. It clips on the hearboard. http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/20315674/ Last edited by JSWolf; 04-28-2017 at 09:53 AM. |
