an Amazon.de site rather than Amazon.com That would make distributing localized firmwares easy to do. |

Just checked it for PW3: Amazon.de as well as Amazon.com both have the same link:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/firmwaredow...hite_5.8.9.bin Could also be a local flag "support active documents" which survives updates if already set in an older firmware. Just like your jailbreak... ![]() OTOH, my friend bought a PW3 a few weeks ago, immediately made the jailbreak and updated directly to 5.8.7 - and active documents are supported in his device. Just asked him explicitely. |

PW-3 is a 7th. generation device.
Policy change only affects 8th. generation devices. Compare the build numbers of your PW-3 build and your KT-3 build. The firmware version will be the same but: (build ID number) will be different. = = = = I will leave the note I added this morning because of that "I can't remember" problem with recovering a bricked German PW-?, the firmware update packages where different that time. Well, my KT3 still accepts Active Documents - but it was updated version after version from 5.8.3 (or so) to now 5.8.7.0.1. When jailbreking and then updating immediatetly to that version or even 5.8.9 could indeed break this ability.

This was clear for me. I've meant a (supposed) internal system area config parameter kept thru consecutive fw updates as long as there is no factory reset.
As for the PW3, I mixed it up with the problem of no longer being able to perform the factory image downgrade. You're right: Active Documents should work with 7th generation Kindles smoothly even with the latest fw. Sorry - was in a hurry... ![]() Gesendet von meinem Google Pixel mit Yabba-Dabba-Talk. ![]() |

My head is spinning today anyway.
I may have given you part of the answer to another technical question posed at about the same time. I.E: I may not have the: person <-> question <-> answer parts all matched up properly today. |

Hi MobileRead forum,
I m currently at step 8 of jailbreaking my PW2. (I hope previous steps went good, I saw the **JAILBROKEN** mark during the universal jailbreak for PW2...) English not being my native language, I m not sure how to proceed for the step 8.a : Spoiler:
So, do I just need to put the downloaded archive "kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N-r13408.tar.xz " in its .tar.xz state to the root of my Kindle ? Do I need to put it in its .tar state ? Or do I need to unzip it totally and put the 4 contents in to the root (contents being "mrpackages", "extensions" folders and "VERSION", "ChangeLog.txt" files). I tried to put the "kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N-r13408.tar.xz " like that in my Kindle. Then I tried the ;log mrpi in the search bar but nothing happened. (Also i couldnt try to run it from KUAL since I haven't installed KUAL yet (it's the 8.b step). Thanks for your patience and your help |

Open the archive. Put the document form in /documents. You want the -2.0- not the -1.0- document. |

I can't find any document form with 2.0 or 1.0 in its name in the archive "kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N.tar.xz" or the same .zip on its own forum post.
I can find them in the archive "KUAL-v2.7.zip" from the step 8.b Should I start installing KUAL (step 8.b) before installing MrPI (step 8.a) ? |

I just made a mistake in answering the wrong part of your question about step 8. About MrPI, which you did ask about: Quote:
What is your native language? When you do as directed, the un-archive tool will create two directories at the top level of visible USB storage, /extensions and /mrpackages That is all you have to do for MrPI Those, and their contents, are all there is to MrPI. Do the latter, i.e. the thing you mentioned last: just put the KUAL-...-2.0.azw2 in your /documents folder. Wait a bit to let your Kindle find this document and add it to its list. Open this "book" - you'll find yourself in the KUAL Menu. Don't bother about MRPI - this is simply not necessary for PW2 and even PW3.

And I don't recall linking to anything older than 5.7.x in step #7. |
