@Isamilis: This issue (missing text that reappears if you go forward a page then back again) persists for me in 5.8.9. So updating to the latest software will not fix the problem.

I have had that half page thing once or twice, end of last year maybe? I can't recall. Fall maybe. But I haven't seen it since on any of my devices. I wasn't able to reproduce it then and since its gone for me, I haven't thought about it anymore. Don't think its a wide spread issue. I do know that in my case it was a book that was sideloaded I had converted in calibre. Got from a store I don't normally get books from. Haven't had it with any other side loaded or amazon books. I read mostly my amazon purchases on my kindles.
Not sure how they can address something that only happens to some people. |

I'm not seeing 'missing text' issue. Wondering if it involves specific text sizes or fonts? Books with 'enhanced typography' or without?
Recently I've been using Bookerly at size 1 or 2. Before that Ember Bold at size 2. |

Well, I mostly see it in periodicals, which are old-style MOBI, so it's definitely not enhanced typesetting at fault. It's easily triggered by going back a couple of pages, then forward again: about 5% of the time, for me, it'll go wrong when you do that. It's clearly a cache invalidation problem somewhere...

All my books are AZW3, so I concur that it's not the enhanced typesetting.
I also agree that it's a caching problem. |

That sounds like the cache slots are organized in the order of a circular buffer, and the direction change causes an off-by-one error in the tracking of what cache slots have been filled. Now if Amazon would release some program documentation . . . . ![]() = = = = = So, two slots per displayed page - the odd one is recorded as filled when it has been erased .... If you go back far enough, so that you have rotated through all cache slots and then go forward, you should not see the blank half page. "far enough" can probably be found by a binary search (go back 16, 8, 4 or 12, . . . .) Last edited by knc1; 04-24-2017 at 10:27 PM. |

Also, when dumping the device logs, this error appears: "framework: 41m[PRE_RENDER] fillUpCache(533): ERROR: NO page cache list or current page is a special page that shouldn't use cache [0m" |

Ah, my comment was lacking context again.
I was commenting on the way posted to reproduce the problem. That is, start out going backward (some number of pages) and then go forward and find one of the pages you backed away from half-missing. |

I just had an unpleasant thought: What if the missing-text bug only occurs with old-style mobi and AZW3, and not with KFX. If that's the case, then fixing it is likely to be low priority over at Amazon. (In fact, it's probably already low priority given that it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem — possibly because most people download their books straight from Amazon and receive KFX.)
Has anybody encountered this bug with a KFX book? |

I haven't seen this on a KFX myself, but I've read a lot more non-KFX than KFX so far so it could just be chance. |

Or do you just scatter a bunch of micro-sd cards on the coffee table now? - - - - - Un-noticed by many, but column fillers are a thing of the past. Computer driven typesetting killed them off. |

I contacted Kindle Support about the missing-text bug.
The results went something like this: Kindle Support: Did you try restarting your Kindle? Me: Yes, it didn't help. Kindle Support: Did you try resetting your Kindle? Me: Yes, it didn't help. Kindle Support: Okay, I will escalate this to our technical team. Next day Kindle Support requests device logs. I email requested device logs. A few days later, I receive a follow-up email: Our technical team has determined this is a hardware problem and it would be best to replace your Kindle. I am dubious. What are the odds that getting a new Kindle will fix this problem? |
