Desktop App Kobo annotation exporter

Dear Toxaris Wizard,

I love the format of your annotations. I have the following problem: the new software for the Pocketbook series of eReaders has also changed recently to the sql format.

You can guess my next question:

Would it be possible to add a configuration for the Pocketbook Touch HD (which uses the same software as the Pocketbook Inkpad 2 etc)?

The sql code is stored in a books.db file. Here's what it looks like:

The file is locate on:

F:\system\config

Where F appears Touch HD (F in Windows.

I suppose you might need information for the SD Card in order to get the notes from that.

Could you help me? I'd be happy to donate, and I know there are thousands of Pocketbook users out there who would appreciate it.

Is there any chance it will support expanding marked text for the Kobo annotations? It doesn't work as of now.

It does support that for ePUB, but as of yet not for kepub. It is on the roadmap, but not as of yet. I have some other projects that need to be done first. I do not expect to have the time before Q3 2017 to even look at it.

You mean epubs on Kobo work? I guess my books have all been forcefully changed into kepubs for some reason, by Calibre or the Kobo, cause none of them work...

I have another question: Is it possible to have access to the source of AnnotationExporter? I have the source for Yoths', to which I had made little changes, and I'd like to merge it with your fork if possible.

They only get changed to kepub if YOU have configured Calibre to do that conversion! A stock install of Calibre will send content on epub format to Kobo.

Are you sure about this? I haven't changed any options in regards to converting epubs to kepubs. I looked around the preferences and the plugin options and didn't even find anything that could indicate such behaviour.

Could you send me in the right direction? How to control this behaviour in Calibre? (I apologise if this is a bit off topic in this thread).

Thank you so much. I remember I had added a "check all" checkbox at the bottom and, if I remember correctly, was working on skipping read books whose annotations had already been exported.

A standard calibre install knows virtually nothing about kepubs. To use them, you either need to install the KoboTouchExtended driver or the Kepub Output plugin.

If you use the KoboTouchExtended driver, it is used instead of the built-in KoboTouch driver. The KoboTouchExtended driver will automatically transform epubs sent to Kobo devices to kepubs. It does not add these to the calibre library. If installed an enabled, this happens to every epub sent to the device.

The Kepub Output plugin is used to convert books to kepubs. These are then stored in the library with the other formats. They can be sent to the Kobo devices. Both the KoboTouch and KoboTouchExtended drivers default to sending kepubs if they are available. This method is useful if you only want to use kepubs for some books.

There are other plugins to improve calibre's handling of kepubs. They are more for if you want to keep kepubs in the calibre library, so are not as necessary if you use the KoboTouchExtended driver.

Thank you for your answer. So do you suggest removing or diabling the KoboTouchExtended plugin? It doesn't seem to have an option in regards to converting to kepub, but if you're sure this is what's causing it... After all, I don't need to be told the number of pages to the end of the chapter or similar statistics which kepub apparently allows.

There is an option to disable the kepubs creation. I can't remember exactly what it is but, it should be the first option on the last tab. Some of the options still do things. But, if you are sure you don't want to use kepubs, you may as well uninstall the plugin. If you want to experiment, disabling the plugin is enough.

I did download Annotation Exporter from Toxari's website. I did install it but it doen't run! Anyone have the same issue?

Do you get an error? Do you have the .Net framework installed?

Hi! I just tried the Annotation Exporter on Windows 10 (fully updated) with my Aura One on the latest 4.4 firmware. I get the startindex error.
One thing I noticed: The app starts if the Kobo is not connected and after connecting I am able to select its drive which produces the startindex error. However, when the Kobo is connected before launching the app, the app will fail to start entirely.
Any solutions?

It might be that the Kobo has changed some things internally. As I now have a Kobo Aura 2, I will be able to check this. I will look into this this weekend.
