The reverse of that is what's so horrible about the new screen.

I'm not the only one where Kobo is clueless about what I actually like to read! I have bought only a few books on Kobo.com (all by Julian May, all in English) and what does Kobo think I like? Dutch dramas and romance...

I do think they are spot on. Only someone who is keen on drama buys a Kobo with its buggy firmware.

Rakuten recently bought Shelfie, they plan on integrating it into Kobo. Part of that will, supposedly, improve their recommendations.

I doubt it. It's so much a mismatch, on many levels. I doubt they even think that people might like to read books that are not written in their mother tongue.

I don't find Goodreads recommendations to be all that accurate and they have even more pertinent data, so I have my doubts.

Frankly, I wish they'd improve the categories and the ability to drill down a search at the Kobo bookstore; that would result in more sales to me than pushing the odd title to the home page of my device.

Hmm, I understand why Kobo want to create an ecosystem, but I think they'd be better off to focus on usp's. The ecosystem battle they are doomed against amazon, whereas if they focus on building open standards the ecosystem will follow.

I like the size, it is really better than the 6" reader. Hate the awful markering and screen sensitivity of Kobo devices in general though.

That would perhaps be the ideal size. Large enough to make the PDF experience more enjoyable. Small enough for portability.

But I would want them to add note taking functionality at that size. Dual touch. Being able to use your fingers while reading, but able to use a stylus for taking notes or sketching. That would be ideal.

In the meantime, the KA1 will suffice.

I like a list display, because I can immediately see the series, the title, the author, and my custom page count.

The (custom) page count is important to me, to be sure I don't pick a 1200 page book if I want an inbetween light read. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to read a story that'll take me 30-40 hours to finish.
How are you putting your custom page count.... plugboard into the title?

So far I haven't found any ebook store whose recommendations come close to what I would choose to read with any consistency. All too often, they don't get the genres right never mind picking authors that I would like to read. One example is that I like J. D. Robb's In Death series which somehow gets translated into a desire to to purchase Nora Roberts' ebooks (yes, I know they are the same person).

I bought the Aura One for the larger screen-- which to me, makes a huge difference, YMMV-- and the integration with Overdrive. I have saved money on books that I would have purchased but were available from the library. The only thing I dislike about the OD integration is that you are supposed to get an email when a book that you are in line for is added to your device. I had a book added and did not receive an email so it was there for a couple of days before I even noticed it.

Another reason for the Aura One love is Pocket. I never used it before and didn't give it much thought when I first got the device but then I realized how many times I pull up the Times or other news article and promise myself that I'll get back to it later. Then I close the browser and totally forget about it. Now, I just hit the button and it's on my device. It's an extra bonus that I can read for much longer on the reader than on the computer so I've just begun to push all my web browsing to the Kobo and reading it from there.
