No, Amazon did not sue. You can't collect from a foreign country. They did take away some reviewers privileges that were proved to have been bought.
Oh and if the author/publisher gives review copies, the reviewer is supposed to say they got a review copy in the review.

Bought reviews are only to go under editorial reviews.

It was another company that got sued.
A dry cleaner sued a review site because they got a bad review.

So some crappy authors tried to get up a petition to make Amazon take down all bad reviews
They wanted only perfect verified reviews..
If one mentioned anything about bad grammar or spelling they wanted it taken down because the reviewer was just out to hurt them.

Now yes, that was a rumor about Amazon suing was started by some sellers that got in their opinion bad reviews that hurt their sales. Same authors didn't like the 7 day returns because someone returned their books.
Most of these authors were selling maybe 1 a day. Usually 1 a week.

You can prepare an amazing meal with this wonderful device. Meals that will be quick and easy. You can cook things that you were told are impossible for a microwave like cookies, cakes, stir fry, tacos, Risotto and even crispy bacon. This two volume set will teach you all the basics.

Shortly after sales of microwave ovens began to soar (let's say the mid 1980's), microwave oven cookbooks began to proliferate, too. Most manufacturers included at least something resembling a cookbook with their ovens. But it seems (I didn't do much cooking back then) that the recipes were not any good, with maybe a few exceptions. Many of the foods in the grocery stores intended to be cooked with the microwave ovens just weren't hardly palatable. It seems to me that manufacturers of frozen foods especially had trouble creating items made with flour (like crusts of pot pies) that would turn out decent. Honestly, about the only thing that I used my microwave oven for was warming up things that had been cooked in a conventional oven, and for baking potatoes, which turned out, well, good enough.

There has been a long learning curve for manufacturers of ovens, professional cooks, cookbook authors, et al., it seems, to figure out how to adjust recipes, and maybe create some new ones, that are microwave-friendly. Back when I was scrounging the thrift stores (second-hand stores), etc. (okay, to be honest, I still do it some) for used dead-tree books, there were always a large number of microwave oven cookbooks among the books for sale. People with the ovens didn't want them, and it seems that it was because the recipes weren't any good.

It seems that that situation has changed, thankfully. I now readily buy frozen foods intended for the microwave, even flour-based ones, and am generally pleased. Apparently, from what people like Cinisajoy said about the risotto, for example, that peeps who put out cookbooks are doing a much better job of coming up with recipes for the microwave than they used to.

I still am very wary of cookbooks intended for the microwave, though. I just simply won't buy one, no matter what the ratings or reviews. Maybe it comes from the bad experiences years ago, and it will take some more time for me to get over.

I still frequent thrift stores and find many microwave cookbooks. It isn't the recipes are not good, it is especially on the older cookbooks if you do not have that exact model, most of the recipes won't work in other microwave ovens. Second problem was on many things like say a roast, it didn't really save any time and you had to check on it every few minutes.

The newer microwaves generally have the same features across the board. Though note, I cannot use my well never mind as it has been re-donated due to being unusable. It was a 1970's era Kenmore microwave cookbook for the microwave that had the roasting probe.

The new steam in bag vegetables work pretty well and microwave popcorn.

I grabbed this one out of curiosity because I don't see how one can do a risotto in the microwave.

OIC. I didn't realize either one of those. If you don't save time and you have to keep getting up and down to check on something, what's the point of having a monkey wave?

Note taken.

I didn't realize that there were home models of microwave ovens in the 1970's. Or did I? Maybe we had one at home. Father was a training specialist at the GE Appliance Park (appliance factory and office building (for engineering, etc., etc. combined into one) in Louisville, Kentucky then. We tended to have the newest major appliances with the newest features. We must have had a microwave back then.

You may find this funny. The very first microwave oven that I remember was in the 1960's--probably about 1967 or 1968. My grandfather worked security at Orkin in Atlanta then, and their break room had a microwave oven. If I'm not mistaken, it was an Amana RadarRange. That may have been the only model that existed at the time.

Oh yes, of course. They do work well--very well for those purposes, IMHO. The veggies are very healthy for you cooked that way. The popcorn, well . . . . maybe not so much.

Let us know how it turns out.

You've got a lot of cooking knowledge. Have you ever thought of approaching the local TV stations (if you've got any there. hahahah) and offering to do a cooking show? How good is your public speaking, etc. ability? Even though I'm sure that they would all be taped, you still can get pretty nervous (I was a participant in a weekly TV show years ago, so I know (no, it was not the Bozo show. ha). Most of the time it was live, but occasionally it was taped. It was nerve-wracking even when it was taped and, if worse came to worse, they could edit or you could do part of it over). Rachel Ray and others probably got their start that way. You'd want to offer your services for free initially, and make some kind of audition tape. If you end up making lots of money, like Rachel Ray does, remember your good friends at MobileRead and spread the wealth. Okay? ha

I can assure you in about 1975 or was it 1977 there were home microwaves and home dishwashers.
The first was big and heavy and the second had to be rolled across the floor and hooked up to the sink faucet. (Don't ask how many showers I got from not getting the dishwasher hose exactly centered on the faucet.) The microwave was on a table with the dishwasher underneath.

Now as to your other suggestion, yes we have TV stations.
But the answer is (words that can't be printed here) no. I was a behind the scenes helper at a tv station on days there was no school when I was 6 to about 13.
No thanks.

My mother (in England) has a Belling Microwave before 1979.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Kurti

In 1969 he gave a talk at the Royal Society titled "The physicist in the kitchen", in which he amazed the audience by using the recently invented microwave oven to make a "reverse Baked Alaska", aka Frozen Florida (cold outside, hot inside).

Yeah, I had questioned, in my previous message, whether or not we had a microwave in the 70's. I tried to indicate that I just didn't remember one way or the other. If GE or Hotpoint (a GE subsidiary) had one out, we probably had one within a year of its introduction.

BTW--How many showers did you get from not getting the dishwasher hose exactly centered on the faucet? hahah

Funny about the dishwasher. We had one of those models, too. Only someone attached a wood cutting board (that I never remember my Mother using) to the top of ours. We had it a long time--I cannot remember a time that we didn't have it. It beat having no dishwasher at all; I'm sure that Mother was glad to have one at all. but I remember it as being noisy. Don't remember anyone having trouble cross-threading the hose to the sink faucet. It was just like hooking up a garden hose to a spigot, best I remember. It's been a long, long time since we used it (we had built-in dishwashers since I can almost remember). Would you believe that Mother (Father is deceased) finally got rid of it only recently? And she wonders how I got to be such a pack rat. ha I don't know who she unloaded it on, I mean gave it to. ha It probably belongs in a museum.

One nice thing about getting older is you can reminisce about the "old days" and have a laugh or two . . . .

I recommend two cookbooks (paper only) both available used at minimal prices

Belling . . . hmm . . . not a brand that I remember over here across the Pond.

I put the cookbooks on my want list. Because of my reticence to buy a microwave cookbook, I feel sure that I don't have either one.

The problem with a reverse baked Alaska is that you don't get to see the exciting sight of a server bringing it out on a tray that's on fire.

BTW--How many showers did you get from not getting the dishwasher hose exactly centered on the faucet? hahah

I think that cutting board was standard on the mobile dishwashers. Ours popped on not screwed on if I remember correctly.
Oh and I personally don't miss a dishwasher.
I would rather have the cabinets.
