But, I don't think there would be a problem with installing KSM. |

It's the same on H2O for normal forced power off. But there's a hidden reset next to the SD/USB ports. You can still break that, but I don't think it should be possible to do so through anything KSM does.

I've never seen a KA1. I just meant that on the H2O you might be excused for thinking there's no reset option.

I have H2O and I needed in one instance to use reset button (long pressing power button didn't helped
![]() But, from people reviews I didn't heard that KA1 has dedicated reset button and this is a bit of a problem for their owners. In my case, I had faulty book, that works on my PC (SumatraPDF reader), but for some reason "blows" koreader and cool reader. I wrote about this before. So I think that dedicated reset button can be handy, you never know when you might need it. |

tshering, would you mind having a look at https://github.com/koreader/koreader...ment-294210761 since you probably know a lot more about the 16-bit/32-bit issue than I do? (As I don't really use Nickel.)

Untested by anyone but you is always a minor risk, but assuming Kobo firmware is versioned sensibly you typically shouldn't have to worry much about releases within a series such as 4.3.x releases. Now 4.4.x on the other hand…

I'm having an issue (I think) with installing KSM 08 (along with KSM08_ext_aura_one_04e.zip patch) for my Kobo Aura One (fw: 4.1.7729).
1. I can install the initial KBStartMenu_08.zip contents 2. All kbemenupngs are shown in the library 3. System updates itself nicely 4. I have successfully set runmenu settings.msh as always 5. I can also copy the Kobo Aura One patch (KSM08_ext_aura_one_04e.zip) contents (KoboRoot.tgz to .kobo) However when I eject Kobo, remove the usb cable, then Kobo Aura One restarts by itself, says "Restarting" and immediately starts updating itself (without going into KSM). I cannot bypass this procedue. After this self-update, I can get into KSM, but there is no option in the main menu of KSM to "handle update". I've tried re-installing steps 1-5 from above, but I can never get to "handle update" menu option (it's never visible in KSM menu). Additionally I have also tried: 1. Go into KSM Menu 2. Start USB 3. Copy Kobo Aura One patch from 2. KSM08_ext_aura_one_04e.zip (KoboRoot -> .kobo) 4. Disable USB 5. Remove USB cable 6. Power off Kobo from KSM 7. Power on Kobo (from power button) ... yet even in this scenario Kobo goes into automatic "Restarting" and then into "Updating" mode by itself, without letting me get into KSM first. After all this, my kSM menu info states: Kobo Start Menu 08 (2015.10.27). I have no way of knowing if this is the Kobo Aura One patch level or not, do I? Can somebody please offer some advice? Thanks! P.S. I have also installed the latest KOReader nightly (koreader-kobo-arm-kobo-linux-gnueabihf-v2015.11-1012-g96ea2ec) contents into .adds\koreader, but even after powerdown and restart, koreader is not visible in the Kobo (nickel) home screen. I think you can tell by enabling wifi, for example in KOReader. Then if you exit KOReader and there's just a warning it's the original release and if there's a disable yes/no it's the 4e update (or at least some update).

Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm wondering... It sounds like ksm is a boot manager, kind of like grub (on Linux). So, I'm curious... Does it make sense to install it even if I don't plan to use koreader or other reading software? It seems like it could be useful in the case of a bad firmware patch, if it makes it possible to boot into a known good firmware, if something goes poorly. Is that a common/recommended use of it? (Is there maybe a easier solution to get a known good firmware loaded in the case of a bad/looping firmware update)?
