Yep, a really annoying move by BK, the company with what has to be the creepiest mascot. Their TV ad was purposely designed to cause Google Homes to start reading a list of ingredients contained within the Whopper, a list it gets from a Wiki article which anyone could edit. Wow BK, really stupid and annoying move!

Well I think I prefer less information from Alexa over Google's ads for hire scheme. I suspect BK paid Google to allow that search, but then cancelled after the push back from Google Home owners who were annoyed. Google loves to cram ads down our throats and up our backsides. I hate everything Google because of their relentless BS ads rather than true search results. I hate that almost as much as I hate fake news.

I've been having a problem lately when watching youtube on my laptop and using my Echo with bluetooth connection. The sound breaks up. The Echo is also connected to Wi-Fi and plays my Amazon music just fine.

I suppose the problem is with the bluetooth connection. I am not sure whether the weakness is with my laptop or the Echo. I used to occasionally have a problem keeping the connection at all, but I've figured out how to fix that when it happens.

I've had my smartbulb for just over two weeks now and I love it.

Took me while to get used to telling Alexa to turn the light off / on instead of using the switch. I've had no connection issues thus far, and there's almost no delay between the command and the action. Very happy.

I should get one for the bedroom. Just when I'm ready to nod out, I get out of bed to turn off the light, and that small action brings me around to full consciousness.

Home automation (lighting) is my primary use case for Alexa, second is the shopping list, and third the alarm clock; sometimes I use her for music. But when I need a question answered, it's Google on my phone.

That's exactly why I got it. (Well, also because it's just fun.

) Even with the Paperwhite, I don't like to read in total darkness and I often read a bit in bed before going to sleep. It really does keep me from wrecking my relaxed state.

Some Home Automation device(s). Ones that are compatible with Alexa, assuming you want to use her to control them.

That could be just a $25 outlet switch from TP-Link, on up to whole-home stuff with hubs and multiple devices, etc.

I'm sure we have a link to all the Alexa-compatible HA stuff around here somewhere.

I use a SmartThings hub from Samsung (there are others, but that's the one I use) and ten (and increasing) GE Link light bulbs, and one GE Z-wave light switch.

I can set up zones, and groups and schedules in the hub or sometimes in the Alexa app, for instance my front porch light and my dining room lights come on 15 minutes before sunset and go off 4 hours after sunset.

There are lights available that work directly with Alexa without a hub, but they are generally more expensive, and after a few the cost of the hub is amortized.
