Our jailbreak does not effect the operation of your Kindle in any way.
It only enables the Kindle to install packages signed with our signature certificate in addition to Amazon's certificate.

The chance of there ever being a jail break for firmware 5.8.8 or newer is somewhere between slim and none.

The jailbreak will survive this update, as it has been observed by those whose kindles were updated without their knowledge. There is, however, no guarantee that later updates will not take direct action against the jailbreak.

As I understand it people are still researching to determine what is effective against the 5.8.8 firmware to block an update without the user's permission. Until this is determined I would not consider allowing Amazon to update my firmware. Assuming an effective update blocking method is determined you could then decide if the update offers any reason for you to update to it.

I jumped off the update train long ago, as the firmware I am running is sufficient for my needs and my enhancements work with it. So give thought to the path you wish to take.

But if it ever has to be refreshed or for some reason, reinstalled, then you can not do those things if running 5.8.8

And as pointed out in the post above, we have no experience to tell us if we can block additional updates once running 5.8.8
The ability to block OTA updates is a function of the firmware version running at the time.

tnx. so its wise not to update to 5.8.8. and i will turn on airplane mode as i alwyas did.one of the best advantage of koredear is supporting epub. and freeserif font. and capability of taking screen shot.

5.8.9 is available now for download and so will probably begin OTA delivery soon.

That is the only certain way to learn if 5.8.8 can over-ride our blocking efforts.
