KOBO WiFi

Hi all,

I was referred to this thread by davidfor. Thanks to him.

I have KOBO WiFi model N647B and software version 1.9.12 (10/16/14)

It seems like the software version is preventing me from loading my own PDF files and reading them on my KOBO.

So, could you please send me the older working software version and let me know how to install it?

Also, how can I prevent the bad newer software update from being installed again? Should I disable the wifi connectivity completely all the time? And what about the USB connectivity to the computer?

I appreciate your response.

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi again,

Thanks to davidfor for providing the older firmware disk image.

I applied it and now the software version shows 1.9.10 (r32284, Sep 8 2011)

However, my original issue is not solved yet. My original issue is that I can not get the ereader to recognize the PDF files I copy to its internal memory (Using windows explorer or Calibre)

Any ideas what could be the reason behind that?

Thanks and best regards,

Sorry, no idea. I've never had a WiFi to use. I can't even say if PDF are supported by it. I think so, but, I'm not completely sure.

The only things I can think of are:

- Don't put it in a directory whose name start with a dot.
- Make sure there are no unusual characters in the name.
- Don't use one with any sort of security on it.
- Start small.
- Remove the other books and just add the PDF.
- Make sure epubs are being loaded.

Thanks again, davidfor

I tried to remove all my additions and start with one small PDF file with small filename without special characters in the top-level root directory. And voila, it worked. Afterwards, I added several other books at once and it worked also.

I have to admit, it is very strange and unexpected behavior.

I hope this helps anybody who has this device.

Regards,

Kobo Problems

I bought my Kobo with wifi recently, just because I like the display and set up of the older ebook readers versus the new ones which are glorified tablets and have bad battery lives. I just got the update on it in which I can't view anything and need the link to download to put it back on. If anyone could send it to me I'd be grateful. I don't have an ideal way to read my books when I'm out in the Semi with my husband without it.

Hi. I fell in to the same hole as others here. My mum dug out her N647 recently and I connected the wifi out of curiosity. I got the bad update. Books are there, but the kobo can't see them. Also, wifi only connects to WPA2 and throws an internet error if you try and use the shop. Just thought I'd add that in case anyone still cares

davidfor, do you mind sending me the link to the known good firmware? It would be very much appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Trying to send you a PM, but your profile doesn't have the option to do so. Perhaps davidfor will have more luck?

Strange... I went through all the options, and it looks like I'm set for getting messages -

If you do not want to receive visitor messages, you may disable the visitor messaging system.
Enable Visitor Messaging (This is ticked)

Really appreciate you trying. I'm happy to give a throwaway email address to send it to, but I'll make sure it's allowed first. Hopefully davidfor know's what's wrong. I did add you as a friend, just to try something. Not sure if it will make a difference. I'll stay logged in for now as well. Again, thanks.

Edit - I also can't PM, but that's not unusual for new users.

Very strange, I remember this happened a while ago to another member in this thread, but I don't know what the outcome was. Usually when you click on a members name, on the menu that appears one of the options is to "send a private message to...", but it's missing for you...

Edit: look at post #706, this happened to scsigate, and clicking on his name, the option for sending a PM is still missing. Guess the best thing to do is contact a moderator. Are you able to send me a PM with your email details?

Ok, Caerus here. I had a feeling something to do with my FF setup messed with my account, so I used stock Edge and I can send PM's with this account. I don't like creating multiple accounts, but it was the most obvious and simple solution.
