According to an article on Mac Rumors, the iOS 10.3 update also fixes an issue which could cause the iPhones to continuously dial 911. This was a major issue here in north Texas as Dallas and other cities were inundated with hundreds of thousands of bogus 911 calls. Apparently if an affected iPhone called into the 911 system, it would repeatedly dial into 911 thereafter, causing a jam up in the system. These were not due to "butt dialing" but were due to a software glitch with AT&T and T-Mobile phones, and perhaps others too. The iPhone owner would not even be aware that their iPhone was continuously dialing 911. Big mess which Dallas is still dealing with.

The description is already in the url itself: apple-file-system-apfs: the-big-ios-10-3-feature-youve-never-heard. It's an overview of the main features of the new file system, including a brief exclamation as to why it gives you more space. Also it's working fine for me.

A few weeks now since the release of 10.3. What's the verdict? Safe to install?

I would say so. I have 10.3.1 on my iPad mini 2, iPad Pro 9.7, and iPhone 6 Plus. I've encountered no issues that seem to be related to the update. I haven't read of any major issues either.

I've installed 10.3 and now 10.3.1 and I've found nothing wrong. 10.3.1 fixed the iPad issue of not finding an update.

I've installed 10.3.1 on two iPhone 6's and an iPad mini 4 with no problems. I also updated my iPhone 5, which is my backup phone. The 5 had to be connected to iTunes to update to 10.3, but it was fine.

I ordered an iPhone 7 (not the Plus) two days ago and it should be here early next week. I will put 10.3.x on it after it arrives and I back it up. I think it best to do that before I start populating it with my apps, data, photos, etc.
I like my 6 Plus and I will keep it as a backup for now, although I still have an iPhone 5 that I kept as a backup when I got the 6 Plus. But I got tired of the big screen on the Plus and decided to go with the 4.7" screen instead. Almost went with an SE, but I took out my iPhone 5 and played around with it for a while and decided to pony up more money and go with the 4.7" screen rather than the 4" screen. Actually I do like the big 5.5" screen on the Plus, but I don't like carrying such a big phone around. |

I tried a Plus before settling on my iPhone 6 and the carrying around of such a big phone was the deciding factor for me. I found the Plus just a little to long/tall for the ways I normally carry my phone around.
