Hello. Posting first time in this thread since I am still in denial.

Anyway, it seems that Amazon Japan doesn't refund the accidental purchases. This a screenshot for the book I bought yesterday

I've been able to get an accidental purchase refunded through customer service for a book without a return button on amazon.ca. It's a bit of a bother though.

As I explained, although it was an accidental purchase, it was of the "I meant to put that on a list to buy later" rather than the "I fon't want this at all" variety. I intended to buy it at some point, and the price probably would've been the same, so all that changed was the schedule. That actually came in handy, as I could process it and the previous volume together before loading them on the Kobo. (Metadata fixes are a lot easier when you can fill in the common fields in one book and paste them right over into the other. Making the styles match up is easier that way, too; I now have two books in a series that actually share a clean, consistent look.)

I am doing my best only to buy books using the Amazon promotional credits from Prime shipping.

But then I have to buy more from Amazon.

And not all publishers participate.

Sigh.

It's not so much the cost for me, as not wanting to have such a large TBR. And the only solution for that is not to buy books. It's the latter that's the tricky bit.

I just today succumbed to a Kindle Special Deal on a highly recommended thriller/mystery series.

My name is Sean and I'm an eBook addict. It has been seven days since I bought an eBook. sometimes I'll go out for an evening with my kindle and end up remembering nothing but I'll have pretzels in my hair and a kindle full of new unread eBooks.

I am seeming to stick to £0.99 books at the moment with the exception of Robert Bryndza's books where i had to get the new one in the series (first time i have ever preordered a book) and that was only £1.99

have bought approx 20 the first quarter of the year i think. Am also using the library alot more as they have more books on overdrive that are of the genre i am into at the moment (thrillers ) the only downside is i then find a new author i like and mroe get added to my wishlist lol

After a rather successful January, February and March, I've come a bit unstuck in April. 17 books bought, and only 14 read (so far). And I added several freebies.

My TBR is still a little down on the start of the year, but not by much.

I shall have to do much better in the rest of the year.

The real question, Paul, is whether these were 'good' purchases? Do you regret any of them? How many will languish unread for months (or forever)?

If the answers are they were good purchases, and you don't regret them, and you're going to actually read all of them in the very near term? Then it's OK and you can focus on your TBR in May by reading down through those new purchases. If not, then you need to come here before buying, not after.

I have a lot of books in my wishlist on Amazon and I check everyday by sorting by price from lower to higher. £.99 is an instant buy and £1.99 is usually also a purchase. I use ereaderIQ but it's increasingly unreliable.

I bought two in the last month for 99p each. I also bought a Kindle Voyage (refurbished) in March so I can read my Kindle books in comfort.

I do not have a problem.

That is the big question, isn't it. Let me look.

I've already read five of them (all 4 ot 5 star reads), and I'm going to read three of them very shortly.
Three more were filling in the Valdemar Chronicles by Mercedes Lackey, which I'll be reading through in order in due course. One was a later book in a series I'm greatly enjoying (Poldark). That leaves five. Which are novels 2 through 6 of a new series of contemporary thrillers where I've given the first 4/5 stars.

So I don't think I regret any of them. Which is bad news, really!

It's a little premature, but I don't think things will change over the weekend, so I'll do my end-of-month check-in.

I bought only one book in April, for $1.25. On a terrific sale and the kind of thing I like. But. It wasn't a wishlist item and I doubt I'll read it this year, so I should have given it a miss.

Still, all my mistakes should be so nugatory! A third of the way into the year and I've spent $9.75 on eight books. I'd have spent more buying two Unicorn Frappucinos. At this point last year, I'd spent $58 on 21 books. My TBR is down a paltry eight books; I'd like to think I'll start to do better on that front.

I'm very impressed! My totals are £79.35 on 39 books, with another 20 freebies. My TBR is only down by four!

I think I must be much more selective of the freebies (I've abandoned or discarded six so far, and read 10).

And I must resist the lure of well-recommended new series at bargain prices.

I feel as if I've turned a corner. Finally! How many years has it been?

I'm lucky in a few respects. There's no current fiction that matters to me, whether series or standalone, so I don't have that compulsion. The drying up of Kobo coupons also has helped as my wishlist books tend to require a deep discount. (My purchases this year reflect a couple of coupons that did work as well as some Google promotions.) And my accounting differs from yours in that I only count cash outlay, so credit at Amazon, Google and B&N didn't count as expenditure, although I count the books acquired thereby as purchased.

Freebies are the debbil, Paul!
