![]() As the H2O also is a premium reader, it makes sense that if there's an update of the model, that it contains the natural light. Also, as the One has a different way of waterproofing, which removes the need of a rubber seal, it makes sense that they add that to the H2O as well. But it would most likely mean that the SD card will have to go. And to counteract that (it being a premium reader and all!), they'll add 8Gb internal memory. And the flush screen is becoming the default (sadly). The USB-C and and better battery life are my wishes ![]() |

Why would the SD card have to go? If they can have an "exposed" USB port, why can't they have an exposed SD card slot?

I sincerely doubt that we're going to see a return of external sd card slots. It's been several models now since that feature was removed.

I was the same until the One. As that one has more than the default 3Gb available. I had a 4Gb card in my H2O, so I had 7Gb on there, now I have 7Gb available without SD card. I don't see the difference.

Because so few people actually need the extra space of the external SD card that it is not really worth the effort (i.e cost) for Kobo to produce a device with an external card in it.

![]() I wouldn't want to buy a device without SD card slot if I would use it for media other than plain black-and-white books. Think video, music, but also magazines or newspapers. Yes, there are books that might be large (I do have epubs that are 2Mb in size), but the majority is around 500Kb. As I mostly use my ereader for novels, with an occasional PDF book or comic book (which will a lot larger than the average novel...) 7Gb is large enough for me. With 3Gb (remember, you always lose about 1Gb for system software!), I don't feel comfortable (even though I might have only 1Gb used). And I think that goes for the majority of readers, which are not the ones that post here, but read their lives away in annonimity. Everybody I know that actually uses an ereader only have a few books on it. And as davidfor already said, why should the majority pay for something they won't use? The update from a 4Gb internal card to a 8Gb internal card makes sense on the One, as that one is more suited for reading larger PDF books or comics. |

On my One, I have 34 books above 10 Mb, of which only 7 pdfs, the rest kepubs. The biggest is a kepub (the complete illustrated Sherlock Holmes), at 50 Mb.
In all, I have 2996 books, for 2.92 Gb plus 21 Mb fonts. I have only 1648 Mb out of 6890 available, because of .kobo-images at 1.6 Gb and .kobo (including dictionaries for 59 Mb) at 0.6 Gb. Last edited by anacreon; 03-31-2017 at 04:13 AM. |

And since I realized how much space Kobo wastes with covers, with 3 GB storage readers which were a VERY narrow fit for me, I'm careful to compress covers for every new book. à propos this feature of calibre, I regret that it is not possible to compress only covers: if there are maps for instance, for which I want details when reading, I can't compress covers easily - I have to try finding a decent size cover and use the modify contents of calibre to integrate it into the book.

Ok, share your wild guesses, when is this going to be announced?? I am dying for the info. I really hope it's something I want to order. Tomorrow is April 1, but it's a Saturday, so I'm guessing not. Will it be next week? Or will we have to wait, and wait, and wait....I'm voting for next week. I'll say Weds the 5th.
