Bargain @ 99 cents/pence at Amazon US & UK only until March 29th from Le French Book, which specializes in translations:

The 7th Woman by French author Frédérique Molay (SYKM, Wikipedia FR), 1st in her Paris Homicide series starring police chief Nico Sirsky. This won the Quai des Orfèvres prize (Wikipedia) in 2007.

According to the publisher's newsletter, due to some sort of territorial complications, they can only offer the sale price in the US & UK, even though the translation is available from them in other countries (if you or someone you know has a US-based account, it can be purchased as a gift and redeemed in other countries). I've read a few of their translated works in the past, and I'd say they do a pretty decent job as far as I can tell, not usually having access to the originals myself. (If you are interested in the original of this, occasionally publisher Fayard does an annual sale on the older award-winning volumes when prize-giving time comes around again.)

Winner of France's prestigious Prix du Quai des Orfèvres prize for best crime fiction, named Best Crime Fiction Novel of the Year, and already an international bestseller with over 150,000 copies sold.

There's no rest for Paris's top criminal investigation division, La Crim'. Who is preying on women in the French capital? How can he kill again and again without leaving any clues? A serial killer is taking pleasure in a macabre ritual that leaves the police on tenterhooks. Chief of Police Nico Sirsky—a super cop with a modern-day real life, including an ex-wife, a teenage son and a budding love story—races against the clock to solve the murders as they get closer and closer to his inner circle. Will he resist the pressure? The story grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the last page, leading you behind the scenes with the French police and into the coroner’s office. It has the suspense of Seven, with CSI-like details. You will never experience Paris the same way again!

A huge batch of price drops for Paul Doherty's books, across several of his series (and multiple pen names), with many in the $0.99 to $2.99 range. Most of his titles are usually much more expensive. I'm not going to try to list them all, but here are a couple of price ascending links for Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?ta...price-asc-rank

Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?Qu...&sort=PriceAsc

Awesome, I remember liking Doherty's Brother Athelstan mysteries which I got during a long-ago Severn House sale, and just scooped up all the 99 cent ones now (less those that were already in the 3 money-saving omnibuses at the same price and the one that was a freebie giveaway years ago), and I'll likely get some of the $2.99 fills for the series I'm most interested in trying first (mostly the Ancient Rome/Greece/Egypt ones).

In case anyone else is wondering what fits where, and how much you'd need to fill from the higher tiers afterwards, here are the 99 cent ones (thanks to SYKM and Wikipedia), which also have some non-fiction and non-mystery historicals among them:

Spoiler:

Ancient World
  • Amerotke Egyptian series: #1 Mask of Ra, #2-4 in Amerotke Omnibus
  • Alexander the Great: #2 Murder in Thebes, #3 Gates of Hell
  • Rome Mysteries: #3 The Song of the Gladiator

Medieval/Renaissance
  • Nicholas Chirke: #1-3 in Canterbury Tales by Night Omnibus, #4 Ghostly Murders, #5 The Hangman's Hymn
  • Hugh Corbett: #1-3 in Hugh Corbett Omnibus, #4 Prince of Darkness, #10 Devil's Hunt, #12 Treason of the Ghosts, #17 The Mysterium
  • Mathilde of Westminster: #3 The Darkening Glass
  • Kathryn Swinbrook: #4 The Book of Shadows
  • Roger Shallott: #4 Brood of Vipers, #5 The Gallows Murders
  • Matthew Jenkyn: #2 Serpent Among the Lilies (Headline claims it's #1, but SYKM and Wikipedia agree that it was published 2nd)

Standalone Mystery: The Death of the Red King, Soul Slayer, The Fate of Princes, The Death of a King, The Haunting (19th century)

Non-Mystery Standalone (not listed on SYKM)
  • Historical: The Love Knot (medieval), Of Love and War (post-WWI-era, previously free) ; these were both written under the pen name Vanessa Alexander and are dramas
  • Non-Fiction (according to Wikipedia): The Great Crown Jewel Robbery of 1303, The Secret Life of Elizabeth I

I have read all of the Amerotke ones and a couple of the Macedon ones in DTB and enjoyed them all. I too picked up quite a few of the others <grin>.

Also I noticed that four titles by Paul J. Doherty, not Paul C. Doherty, had crept into the Amazon search, so I've updated the link above to filter those out.

There's a number at 99p and £1.99 on Amazon.co.uk as well:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_pg...qid=1490663603

I've read a few of his works but have to say I prefer Lindsey Davis (waiting for a price drop on 11-20 of Falco), John Maddox Roberts (why aren't SPQR available in the UK?) and Stephen Saylor.

Free on Amazon UK today -To Kill a Wife (Inspector Peach Series Book 3) by J M Gregson

Spoiler:
Maybe everyone would be better off without her…

Verna Hume isn’t an easy woman to be around. Her husband, Martin, knows that all too well.

Their marriage had long since died and out of spite, Verna refuses to give Martin the divorce he wants.

And in the meantime, she has numerous affairs with other men – her latest man, one Hugh Pearson of Pearson’s Electronics.

It’s then that Martin thinks: I could just kill her.

As he toys with plans to kill her, he feels a new lease of life. Everything from his career to his social life is on the up.

He starts an affair of his own – with Verna’s sister, Sue; a single mother to a wonderful little boy.

Oblivious to everything but her future with Hugh, Verna completely ignores Martin going away for the weekend.

To his surprise, when Martin returns home, he finds Verna dead; to add to the irony, he’s arrested for her murder.

It seems an easy case to the police but DI Dennis Peach doesn’t think Martin did it. And his partner Lucy Blake is in agreement.

As the pair soon discover, Verna Hume had many enemies other than Martin and Sue.

There’s her long-time business partner and friend, Barbara Harris, who had a nasty disagreement with Verna the day before her death.

There’s Hugh Pearson, who while happy to sleep with Verna was not keen on Verna’s insistence that they get married and set up home together.

There are her own parents, her father and stepmother – Dean and Alice Osbourne – whom, Verna treated awfully.

And then there are all her ex-lover.

It’s clear that Martin is innocent, his alibi watertight, and so it’s up to Peach and Blake to uncover the real murderer.

Free on Amazon UK today -Deadly Assumptions (A Dr Josiah Bartlett Mystery Book 3) by Daniel Bjork

Spoiler:
It’s Mid-19th century America on the verge of Civil War…

Concord, Massachusetts is rocked again by a third murder of a female member of the Chase family.

Eight years after the drowning of wild child Mary by her own father Henry Chase, and five years after his wife Sarah was discovered in a pool of blood with her throat slit, youngest daughter Edie is found poisoned in a hotel on a rare visit to the town
where she was raised.

The shock discovery is made by retired local doctor, Josiah Bartlett, a man who reveals as large an appetite for detective work as for the irresistible cooking of his daughter Hannah.

Bartlett, warned constantly by the town Sheriff not to stick his nose into lawmen’s work, is suspicious when he first encounters Edie after so many years – what is the real motive in her seeking him out?

Suddenly, the elderly Doctor – now a grandfather following the marriage of Hannah and Sheriff Keyes – finds himself drawn magnetically into another murder mystery involving the same ill-starred family.

It is a tragedy that seems to have no end.

After all, he had secured the confession from Henry Chase that he had indeed murdered his eldest daughter – and battered another Concord resident to death.

But the killer had miraculously bust out of jail and was able to continue his psychotic spree, butchering his wife before being shot and disappearing into the Merrimack River.

Now-grown-up Edie arrives back in Concord, begging the Doctor help save her brother Timothy who has joined a gang.

And instead of the Henry Chase case looking all wrapped up, the assumptions start to unravel in deadly fashion.

Free on Amazon UK today -No Holds Barred by Michael Allen

Spoiler:
The countdown begins…

One young girl, alone, holds the fate of the West in her hands.

In July, 1980, Sally Denning faced impossible odds in the Olympic women’s judo finals in Moscow, with a host country not averse to bribing judges or drugging finalists in order to ensure victory for their own athletes.

Devastated by a loss that by all rights should have been a win, and the gold medal, Sally abandons judo — and the terribly handsome, married coach with whom she is in love — for a new life far away from international competition and intrigue.

Four years later, her past comes crashing into her present.

Working for Special Branch at Scotland Yard, Sally discovers that by a remarkable coincidence, her former coach — now a widower — works in the same building.

But their budding romance is threatened by a terrorist threat that no one but Sally believes is real…

Alone in her frantic mission to stop a crime that will rock the world, Sally races across England to stop an audacious attempt to shift the balance of power in the Western world by assassinating the president of the United States and the British prime minister.

She knows who it is she hunts but stopping them is a matter of reaching them before the clock reaches zero.

And as the seconds tick away, on a hill above a small English church, a hand is poised over a switch that will blow the best hopes of the free world sky-high…

Free on Amazon UK today -This Side Murder? by John Bonett

Spoiler:
Gilbert Tarsier, successful newspaper columnist, is sent by his paper to Spain on a double mission: to ferret out gossip about the guests at the new luxury hotel in Cala Cristina…

He’s there to exploit any gossip he can sniff out, and will spare no one in his sensational newspaper column.

This quickly arouses the hostility of several distinguished hotel guests, so when the self-assured Tarsier shows up dead, the lack of sympathy is unsurprising….

Unfortunately for the gentle Inspector Borges, Tarsier’s unpopularity means the range of suspects is extensive. If indeed it was murder that caused his untimely death…

First there’s his neglected wife Lily, plain but holding untapped potential, who is soon taken under the wing of Irene Stollman, wife of the economist Franz, one of the victims of Tarsier’s libellous pen.

Then there’s Lady Poppy Dauntwood, currently on her fifth husband, her vivaciousness belying a sad past and another guest suffering the slurs of Tarsier.

When it is revealed that Tarsier had penned a defamatory biography of the Victorian novelist Matthew Egremont, grandfather of the artist Arbelle and her brother Ralph Egremont, the pool of suspects grows even larger.

Does this incriminate their nephew and architect of the Cala Cristina, Philip Egremont too?

Surely his relations with the lovely ballerina Judy Shafto, on holiday with her Uncle Quintin, means his thoughts are occupied by romance not murder?

The Inspector must sort through numerous and often conflicting statements and alibis to discover the truth behind Tarsier’s demise…
