I don't like to be tied up by kindle, nook etc and that's why I like SmashWords where you can get book in format of your choice... What are the views of other readers. Thanks. |

It depends on what I am reading, doing. Oh and you can sideload to Kindles and Kobos so you are not tied to a store. I have sideloaded to both Kindle and Kobo from Smashwords. |

I buy all my books, or nearly all of them, from Amazon. I read them on my various Kindles, on my Kobos, on my Nook and in Moon+ on my phone. The conversion process is so quick and simple I rarely think about it. I buy the book, download it, and have it ready to go in mobi and epub formats within a minute. Often I'll download 2 or 3 and convert them together and that still takes about a minute. Barry |

Unless something changes, I'll stick with my Kindle and Amazon for books. | |

I don't like to be tied up by any company either, so I like Calibre as that allows me to read every book I might buy on any device I might own. I like to have the option where I buy my stuff, be it Amazon or Kobo or any other store. I doubt you can get every book you can get from Kobo or Amazon at SmashWords...

I have/had devices from all the major stores, but am tied to none of those stores. My books from Amazon happily coexist with books from Kobo, B&N, Smashwords and a dozen other stores just fine. I don't really dislike any store too much although B&N is on my no-buy list (except freebies and credits) do to how difficult they make it to get an actual book file. Not a big Smashwords fan (but I do buy there sometimes) as I've too often gotten books that have been mangled by their meat grinder (now that authors can upload their own ePub this isn't as big of a problem) and I find browsing their store cumbersome I also don't buy self-pub books in general anymore unless they come recommended.
