Maybe it's to discourage sharing the files elsewhere since they know many romance readers who read digital turn their noses up on the file format. (I'm kidding. Sort of.) Really, if they wanted us to read e-books with fixed layout, they should've given away print books instead….

I think what Little.Egret meant was that PDF enjoys wider native support in phones and computers—and, yes, even e-readers—reading experience notwithstanding. You can open it in browsers, read it without having to install apps in most cases.

They're not protected. You can convert them, but you should know they're not going to be pretty.

If their primary target with the promo is people who aren't normally eBook readers then PDF makes the most sense as most if not all computers nowadays have PDF reading software installed on them. Many people when they try an eBook for the first time do so on a laptop or desktop computer (which generally don't have an ePub or Mobi reader unless you add one).

Harlequin has done various Try Harlequin freebies in the past in ePub, prc/Mobi and PDF at various times. It appears this time they chose PDF. Best would of course be if they did a choice of multiple formats which IIRC they have done in the past.

Well, of course. But I would think most times there's no need for a new [dedicated] one except maybe on Android, if Google Play doesn't come pre-installed.

I prefer UB Reader on my tablet for pdfs. Though those are usually manuals.

Same. I can get them later if I would actually want to read them which I probably wouldn't. I imagine they are all part of a long standing series.

I never realized Send To Kindle could convert PDFs to a Kindle compatible format until I saw this mentioned in a blog today, and actually tried it with the Joan Wolfe freebie mentioned *points up*. Looks pretty good, too.

It can. It'll depend on the individual PDF as to how well it converts.

Yeah I tried a couple of the Harlequin PDFs, adding to Calibre, then adding the Kindle converted file to Calibre. They both would've needed editing. YMMV I think I've picked up most of the titles I was interested in already, mostly for free, a couple with points.
