Since the stats are currently broken, the advantages of kepub vs ePub are a lot less.

ePub has much better typesetting.

I tend to do that anyway, I admit it!

For me, kepub has more disadvantages (that header is a huge disadvantage in my list) than advantages (the only one I can think of is the footnotes, but I barely use that), so I'll keep with my epub.
I patch to enable full screen reading. The header and footer on kepub is stupid. Using full-screen and having the header and footer only pop-up when needed seems so obvious, I'm surprised it isn't already an official option.

I use Kepubs, converted by Calibre, primarily for the currently broken statistics. I also liked the "no header, page number at the bottom" setting... when that worked.

I haven't noticed any problem with the in-book stats. The overall book stats are wrong, but the times for the current chapter and next chapter are about right. And the chapter graph is right.

That's the biggest problem: I want the footer and not the header. It's weird that they offer this option for epub but not kepub...

Maybe I should put a book as kepub on my reader and see what happens and make a real observation instead of just assuming from observations from others.

I'm sorry if I upset you.
Yes I realise that there may well be other reading apps available for the iPad but I think the vast majority of people probably stick with iBooks because it works, it's free, and it does not constantly bombard you with adverts.

There is the Kobo Touch Extended driver for Calibre that will convert your books to kepub when you send them to the device. Works behind the scenes and works like a charm.

On my PC, I don't have a single kepub. On my Kobo, that is all I have.
Thanks I will give it a try.

As I said before I normally just drag-and-drop files onto my reader but I might try using Calibre to copy a few across to see how it works.

I like my Kobo a lot, but I wish they would work on the header/footer. I remember preferring the way my Nook ST did it, but it's been so long now I don't remember.

But full screen reading works for me. It takes too many clicks to get to 'page xx of yy' still, but I can deal.

It's been a while since I set everything up, but I think you might have to mess with the plug board to get the most out of Calibre management.

I just know that I have Calibre and Kobo set up so that tags in Calibre act as collections in Kobo. Also each book shows the series it is a part of in my library. And long pressing a book will give the option to display the synopsis from Calibre.

I have just added two books to my Kobo using Calibre. I installed the KoboUtilities plugin and I see that in the process they have been converted to kepub (title.kepub.epub)

I had created a folder in the Kobo memory as a place to store my books (Books) and by dragging-and-dropping I am able to put all my books there, and in various sub-folders, but I see Calibre has added them to the main memory each one in its own folder. So far I have been unable to find a way of automatically putting them in the 'Books' folder and if I drag them there it rather defeats the point of using Calibre in the first place.

Seems like there is a lot more to learn

You can turn the auto convert off is you wish. I'm not at home right now, so I don't remember where.

Also, I'm pretty sure you can tell Calibre where you want your books placed. But I never bothered. Calibre sends all my books to the SD card in the Aura.

There is. But as you can see reading this thread, it is up to you. You can drag and drop to your Kobo, use Calibre, turn all sorts of options on or off. You can patch the software to behave differently or install completely different software.

It all just depends on what you feel is worth your time.

Where calibre puts the books on the device can be configured in the driver. Open this from the plugin page of the preferences, or right-clicking on the device button when it is connected. The path and filename are set using the "Save template" which is on the first tab of the configuration.

Not overly bothered about whether or not it converts them to KePub as long as they display correctly.
To be honest I'm not a great one for playing around with my devices. As long as they do what I want (i.e. allow me to read a book) I tend to leave them as they are.

Thanks. I will check out the driver options and see if I can get it to put the books where I want them.

I just acquired a Kobo Aura One aswell.
Im coming from the Kindle Oasis. It was okay but I tired of the blueish light and the small screen.

So far I enjoy the Kobo. It feels as snappy as the Kindle, although I somewhat miss the physical buttons. The comfort light makes a huge difference for me, even though its a bit greenish at the bottom. Thats ok though, it sortof indicates where the menu zone is

The problem Im having with e-readers in general is still present though. And that is the touch screens; You have to be so careful not to touch the screen because that will trigger all sorts of input, which means you have to hold it awkwardly and delicately. That is tiring.
When I read a physical book I can simply hold my thumb onto the page with no issue. I wish some manufacturer could solve this with a touch-lock of some kind.

I found that if I convert my books to PDF format I can actually rest my thumb on the screen without much issue. Atleast thats something.

Anyway, happy reading.
